I hope that this is a program that will allow me to write a C function 
that will interface with a soundblaster compatible card to create a tone 
of a specified frequency and duration. Up until now, I have simply 
turned the PC internal speaker on and off at the desired frequency and 
this was routed into the sound card and thus into the headphones. With 
desktop PCs, we had the luxury of just wiring a headphone jack to the 
internal speaker wires if this didn't happen, but this is a desperate 
solution for a modern laptop. Thanks for any advice.

Hardware issue, not driver issue.
