Re: [Freedos-user] FDI Preview 20

Hi Don,

You might want to read the FreeDOS wiki article that describes the
package structure:
http://freedos.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Package

Shortly answered, the "link" files are a recent feature of FDNPKG, that
makes it possible to make programs runnable within %PATH% without the
need of putting everything to %FREEDOS%\BIN (which should be strictly
reserved for BASE software).

To create a link inside a package, one has simply to create a "LINKS"
directory inside the zip archive, and put a file named "PKGNAME.BAT"
inside it, where "PKGNAME" is the name of the package. Inside the BAT
file, FDNPKG expects to find the relative path to the executable that
needs to be "linked".

Example of a package structure for ZIP:

BIN\ZIP.EXE
APPINFO\ZIP.LSM
LINKS\ZIP.BAT

The "LINKS\ZIP.BAT" would then contain exactly a single line stating
"BIN\ZIP.EXE"

Hey Jerome,
I posted a couple of questions of FB and just thought of another one.
Where is the LINKS.BAT file located? I wanted to change it to reflect the
/progs directory for UPX, P7ZIP, etc.
