Most new chips run Network just fine if you use www.netbootdisk.com, 
including on-board in brand new MB

I have one of the genuini chip of the fake 8139, it is from SILEN. The 
driver is buggy, both packet driver and ndis2 :(

I load a Realtek RTL8139 driver in OS/2.  I have at least six 8139 cards 
from a couple vendors.  The driver not only works with those but has 
worked with several later 8xxx chips on motherboards.

I expect it to work as well with DOS, assuming this particular driver 
does work.

I use a 8139 succesfully... I found its device driver here:
http://www.georgpotthast.de/sioux/packet.htm

No news about the first one, sorry :)
