Under pure UEFI, FreeDOS won't work. One reason is lack of backwards compatibility, another reason is UEFI might restrict you to vendor-signed cryptographic bootloaders. My best guess would be to bring a USB flash drive with you and require the shop that's selling you the machine or motherboard, to demonstrate that the USB flash drive can boot. As for floppy disks, I've got no idea where they are still sold (or even manufactured at all). USB floppy drives seem readily available but at horrible prices (40 euro and up). Right now most UEFI implementations likely will have a backwards compatibility mode. Ofcourse this might disappear again in the near future, who knows what people are up to. > ps. Let's hope future UEFI systems allow disabling the 'only allow signed (Microsoft Windows 8) bootloaders to load from harddisk' so you can boot from other media as well (CD, USB, network, Thunderbolt) and allow other operating systems. > pps.
