Hi,

are you using a driver (which?) or does your BIOS support it?

Re: [Freedos-user] formatting a USB drive

2007-01-13 Thread Eric Auer

Hi Dan,

I'm getting the following warnings when trying to format my USB
thumbdrive. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? The kernel I'm
 using is 2.6.17.13.

You mean you somehow run DOS inside Linux and then
try to format an USB stick? Then I would recommend
to use a Linux tool like mkdosfs... Please let me
know which DOS kernel you use - you can use VER or
VER /r to see the DOS kernel version. If you do
indeed run DOS inside Linux, please do also tell
which software you use for that - for example QEmu,
Dosemu, Bochs, Dosbox, Wine...?

 C:\format /u /s /d f:
[DEBUG] This is FORMAT 0.91p, selected drive - F:

Where did you download that version? Current
version is 0.91v, so it would be good if the
page where you downloaded it could update it.
It is also possible that you tried to format
to FAT32 under a DOS kernel without FAT32
support...

[DEBUG] DOS 7+ detected, LOCKing drive.
 G.D.P.: Call to int 0x21, 0x440d 0x60, failed error 0f.
Maybe you forgot to LOCK the drive (error 5)? Trying FAT32...

 G.D.P.: Call to int 0x21, 0x440d 0x60, failed error 0f. Possible reasons:
Could not get drive LOCK (error 5), or the OS supports no FAT32 at all.

Eric

Just FYI, Dosbox doesn't support Format command, it simply
returns

Illegal command: format

The same is also true for Ver (version info), and probably others as well.
