I've setup AIX 6/7 clients to use IPA servers.  Let me search for my notes and 
find them.  I also want to state I'm by no means an AIX expert, and my notes 
might be completely correct - meaning I may have missed something, but it 
worked for me.

Yes you will have to go through simliar type instuctions.  Basically you setup 
the AIX server ldap client to communicate to the IPA server.
