Hi,

About upstream and downstream bridging, the latest AMC.0 spec clarifies this
topic.

Under section 3.13:

Similarly, the "Send Message"

command can be used by an MMC to bridge an IPMI message through the Carrier
IPMC to

the Shelf Manager. All Carrier IPMCs must support the "Send Message" IPMI
command in

both bridging directions.

And the associated requirement:

REQ 3.198 Carrier IPMCs shall bridge a "Send Message" command that targets IPMI
messaging

Channel 0 to IPMB-0. The intent is to allow an MMC to send a message to the
Shelf

Manager.

Carrier IPMCs have to provide bridging functionality as per AMC specifications.

But you seem to be using bridging in "reverse direction" so to say.

Typically bridging works in forward direction when Shelf Manager sends a
command to MMC via carrier IPMC and MMC responds back.

In that case, carrier IPMC handles the bridging function and MMC is unaware of
this.

As such, support for send message (bridging) command is optional in MMC and
that's why you might be facing problems.

Which MMC implementation are you using?

Subject: ATCA: Query related to Bridging of Ipmi Commands from IPMB-L to IPMB-0

Hi all,

Is it possible to bridge Ipmi Commands from IPMB-L to IPMB-0. Basically I am
sending IPMI commands from AMC on a carrier blade to the Shelf Manager. I am
trying something similar to below,

ipmitool -t 0x20 -m 0x7a raw <Send Message Command to Shelf Manager> where,
0x7a: AMC Address on IPMB-L
-t 0x20: IPMC of Carrier blade

I am hoping the IPMI commands traverse following path,
System Interface on AMC -> IPMC present on Carrier Card, IPMB-L -> Shelf
Manager, IPMB-0

Does the IPMCs on Carrier blade have bridging Capability? From IPMI v1.5 spec
it seems that only BMC (Shelf Manager) has the bridging capability.

If it is possible to bridge commands from IPMB-L to IPMB-0, please point me to
the details of parameters to Send Message Command.
