I have the same problem with version 1.0.1 : extra buttons backward /
forward works under X, but not remotely.
Any other ideas ?

guess you running squeeze. 0.7.4 is unfortunately pretty old.
If it's possible you should give 1.0.1 a try maybe your problems are
already fixed there ;).
