when building for Android the make install isn't necessary (the build
script handles this for you).

Yes, I have tried with fresh checkout. And follow the instructions from
compilation page till *sudo make install* command.

I tried on ubuntu 16.04

Openssl version : OpenSSL 1.0.2g 1 Mar 2016
