FreeSurfer does read and use the qform, but only if the sform is not
valid. When writing, it writes the qform as the same as the sform.

what you mean by the determinant of the talairach xform is an excellent
predictor of TIV? Could you please elaborate on this? I'm trying to
understand how the program calculates the volume of TIV. As my current
