permission to install those libraries into the required directory. So, I
guess that I should use the static version of tkmedit and tksurfer.

Sorry, but we don't distribute a
you don't need to be root (although it seems like you should be able to
get a sysadmin to install them somewhere). In any case, you can change your
LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include whereever you have installed them.
