I am hoping to work on the software for this radio if/when the radio works.

FWIW, I thought the voice quality was significantly better than I expected
when I was playing with the app earlier this week. Then again, I think I
was mentally expecting something only a bit better than 700D (maybe 2020
quality at best) considering that's what I use the most often on HF and all.
In the M17 client, there is a box on the screen right now for an Echo test, so
you can hear what you sound like through the network.
Here’s a screenshot of the client interface.
The system seems to work quite well from all the testing we have been doing so
far. As we have been changing
I honestly don't see how that claim could be made at this time, as there is NO
radio on the air at this point to demonstrate that.
Perhaps it's a theoretical performance based on the current design, and it
would certainly be incredible to see that.
Right now, we are ONLY using software
Hi all,
Somewhere in the M17 protocol is there a Codec2 mode number?
As, my Freebeacon here could put the Codec2 data into a M17 reflector
but I'd like to stick to mode 700C data.

Thanks Walter. I was wondering about this statement on the M17 page:
"M17 uses Codec2, written and developed by David Rowe. Codec2
outperforms existing proprietary and patented (non-free) vocoders
currently available."
Do you (or others on this list) think Codec 2 at 3200 bits/ outperforms
the
Here’s a few notes I sent to someone else earlier today.
M17 is a very NEW project with a great deal of traction just recently.
https://m17project.org/faq/ has some details about what is happening.
This is a completely open source project using David Rowe’s Codec2 for the
encoding
Hi Walter,
Is there like a mailing list of the project or something?

Thanks Walter, wow that M17 project is really getting popular. I just
took a look at the Codec 2 3200 mode, I recall it was something I
knocked up in a few hours - the date is 2012!
Does sound pretty good, I hadn't listened to it for a while. Since then
I've spent most of my time messing around
Several of us have been working with M17 for the past week, using the Mvoice
linux client, and it's working quite well with the reflectors they have in
place today.
The number of reflectors have increased from 3 early last week to 9 as of this
morning, with a couple more that should show up
It is also possible to use one of the existing low-bandwidth text formats
on the upper or lower edge of the voice signal. The advantage being that
more people could read it.
