This question deserves a special answer: Right now, please use the
gitlab instance on 'freedesktop.org' from which the FreeType
repository should be cloned.

  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/freetype

The 'github.com' mirror doesn't yet work as expected; we hope to have
this fixed in the next few weeks.  (The Savannah mirror works, too.)

FreeType isn't officially available from 'gitlab.com'.
