Hmm.. I don't see any attachments.
The problem is more evident at smaller font sizes. At 40, it probably won't
be noticable.
The example I attached:

It's always hard to get developers interested in a bug that you found
in a year-old version of freetype 2.2.1 from FC6. Please try freetype
2.3.1.
