..................
This e-mail contains information about ibogaine, the chemical dependence
interrupter that could revolutionise the treatment of drug, alcohol and
nicotine addiction.

Ibogaine is the only substance known to remove the symptoms of
withdrawal commonly associated with drug dependence, thereby helping to
facilitate painless detoxification.

In addition to being an introduction to the drug for yourselves, we
would be very grateful if you could forward this mailing to any
interested persons on your mailing list, should you have one.

We are entirely a non-profit making organisation. We do not supply
ibogaine, merely make interested persons aware of its existence.

Ibogaine, an indole alkaloid derived from an African plant species, is
a
recently developed medical treatment for drug, alcohol and tobacco
addiction
that may soon be available in the UK.

Unlike existing treatments, ibogaine is offered as a single
administration. Ibogaine is the only known substance that can completely
remove
the symptoms of withdrawal associated with addiction to heroin,
methadone,
cocaine, alcohol and tobacco.

In addition, ibogaine frequently provides addicts with a "drug free"
period - an interval of weeks or months when they experience no desire
to use
drugs. And has also frequently been shown to provide the user with
psychological insights into the reasons for their addictive behaviour.

The use of ibogaine, combined with effective counselling or similar
strategies, likely represents the best known treatment for substance
abuse problems.

It is particularly effective for treating chronic dependency. Ibogaine
does,
however, have one major problem, which is considerably
holding up its development. It is not commercially viable. To bring new
licensed drugs onto the market requires considerable background
investment by the pharmaceutical companies - large, often multinational,
corporations with vast numbers of shareholders.

It is simply not viable to invest in a drug which cannot be patented,
(it comes from a natural source); is typically offered as only a single
administration, (one-off treatment); and, furthermore, will eat into
profits generated by maintenance therapies like methadone. In fact,
commercial law could be said to render such investment illegal.

To help spread the word about this potentially revolutionary treatment,
talks
on ibogaine are being held around around London throughout the second
half of
November 1999,

Speakers will include Dr Kenneth Alper of the New York School of

Medicine, an internationally recognised authority on ibogaine.

Other speakers to be announced.

Tickets are UKŁ15 each and are available in advance or on the door.
Price UKŁ10 each for two or more.

Advance booking is advised as some venues have a fairly limited
capacity.

Dates:

26th November - Bristol University.

29th November - London Voluntary Sector Resource Centre.

Talk times: 6-10pm
