Kwin and xfwm are compositors. Fvwm is not, so to use the compositing
extension in fvwm you will need xcompmgr or some other standalone
compositor.

In gentoo, to make this work nowadays, you need to modify the bang to
#/usr/bin/python2, otherwise, the default python 3.x interpreter is
fired and the menu fails miserably.

I am having more problems with this script. Using 2.6.3 (and I get the
same with latest CVS) on a non-kde machine now. So, there's no
kde-config (nor kde4-config). Of course,
/etc/xdg/menus/gnome-applications.menu do exist and it is a valid menu
file. This is the verbose output:

It's been long, but I've been looking the lists nonetheless. I know
that something happened in the menu generation tool(s) lately, but I
don't know if it's related to my problem. My fvwm-menu-desktop tool
doesn't seem to recognize the --desktop option any longer. The output
is as follows:
