I've just moved from xfce to fvwm and the one thing that's still
bugging me is that I've lost the 'Unix' CTRL/U in Firefox.
That is I want CTRL/U to clear the browser address entry, not pop up a
window with HTML in it. I had the same problem when I first installed
xfce and it was some keyboard

That's not a fvwm issue. You want to configure Firefox to recognize
gtk-2 keybindings. Add
