Is there anything that can help them? Are there plans to create some
tools to assist users in setting up a desktop how they want without
them getting into the weeds?

Oh man! be prepared. You just opened Pandora's box...

I'm drowining in your syntax here.

Most people do this the other way around, namely they replace the buggy
FvwmTaskBar[1] with FvwmIconMan, optionally swallowed in FvwmButtons.
What is it you're asking exactly? You want something that will imitate
FvwmButtons that isn't going to run inside FVWM?

You need to be much more specific about your requirements if you want
help with whatever your question is.

I want to have the buttons non in the button bar but as Icon on the Desktop.
I do not like the FvwmIconMan because the scrollbars and I wa not able to
stick it on the rootwindow transparent.

Exactly, I wand the Icons like under those M$ products on the desktop

If I haven't misundestood you, you could have this M$ appealing, with
several instances of FvwmButtons, one per application, with only one
button each, launching the corresponding application. Then you can place
them anywhere in your desktop (or page, sorry I don't remember exactly
which is the right word, but I think you know what I mean) using
geometry in style lines. They are nicer with no border (0 pixels). The
difference with those in M$ Win is that you cannot pick them up with the
mouse and replace in a differente position (or yes?).

Said that, a question arise: It's worth it, in terms of efficiency, to
have only one instance of FvwmButtons with all the buttons in it?

Thanks
Fernando

I would use the xse utility, you can download it from here
ftp://ftp.x.org/R5contrib/

You could do something like:

Key F1 A A Current Exec xse -win $[w.id] 'KeyA' 'KeyA' 'KeyReturn'

Or you could also use it to make a form (xse can do this itself, or you
could use FvwmButtons)

An idea. If you are executing a ssesion in a remote host, that means you
have authenticated yourself in that host, that means you have a user in
that host, which, in turn, means you have a .profile or a .bashrc. And
then, if all the previous suppositions are ok, you could add an alias in
one of those files associating any key with your complex command
(commands). You know:

alias kk='complex comands'

Then you just need to type kk.

If all that suppositions aren't true, just forget all this and sorry.

Of course this has nothing to do with fvwm, X, or anything similar.

I've taking a look to this rox thing, and it looks nice it you want
dragdrop capabilities. Does anyone have experience in having rox
working in fvwm?, is it going to brake something if fvwm?

Actually the other day I was looking for something similar to a
graphical file manager, and this looks a very good option.

May be I'll give it a try.

FVWM: fvwm for debian

2003-06-03 Thread Fernando Poza
Hi there!

I'm new in the list, but not in fvwm. I'm running debian in my box, and
I wanted to update to the last stable fvwm version. But the thing is
that it seems there is no debian package with fvwm.(fvwm*.deb) in
fvwm.org.

Am I right?, or I'm just not looked for correctly. Then, where can I
find it?.

Otherwise, I'm thinking in packagin it for debian.

Let's see.

Regards

Fernando
