Likely, although volume errors like this can also be soft errors on a good HDD
where the volume got messed

I agree with Cameron Kaiser as to DiskWarrior ...
Apple's stuff is very superficial, and DiskWarrior is the only
worthwhile disk utility I've encountered (for OSX that is --- anyone
remember LaCie's SilverLining?).
