You restarted the iBook with cable connected, holding the "T" key down and
nothing shows on the G4, right? Here are some things to check:
Make sure your firewire cable is good.
Make sure all the computers see the firewire ports under the System
Profiler.

I recently picked up a couple of old G4s for the 16-year old grandson to
play with while back learning Apple OS. The Cube and M8493 Quicksilver
(thanks to the group) are up and running 10.4.11. Neither shows target icon
from either an G4 iBook or eMac. I've used target before but can't seem to
now.
