Great! Thanks Chance, that's exactly what I want. I guess my explanation needed
tweaking. I hope this will provide faster than the b cards, I just put a Sonnet

Btw, the only physical difference between my Sawtooth and all of yours, are
the handles of the sawtooth. I didn't like the lines through them, So i put

with no lines in it. So imagine an iSaw (Sawtooth G4) with quicksilver

Re: 10.5 on a G4 400 MHZ Sawtooth

2010-06-07 Thread Mark Sokolovsky
It all happened like this. I was messing around with my computer one day,
and I did some research on google. I combined some command lines, and i
removed a file in the OF that basically removed RAM limits, removed the CPU
bus speed limits, but it warned me that i could possibly damage my machine
to the point of no repair. I disregarded it, and put 4 1GB Modules from Dell
poweredge 2500 servers. Earlier it worked without doing any mods to my
system, because they were LOW PROFILE So-dimms. This works on a sawtooth,
but I am not sure about other G4's. The problem is, is that I forgot the
command in the OF, and number 2, There is a 50/50 chance it might work with
4 1Gb low profile modules, but I ran into an unhappy Leopard the first time
I booted up. Starting up with 4GB of RAM on a sawtooth only while pressing
and holding COMMAND+OPTION+P+R and it should clear out any problems. Like I
said, it's only proven to work on a sawtooth, and since certain versions of
a Quicksilver have only 3 slots, you can only get 3GB Max. The low profile
dimms work, but after several restarts I had to enter some combined
commands. I forgot the combined commands, so about that...

All of this depends on what kind of keyboard you have, but there's a tool
called a key-cap puller:

which is easy enough to bodge up for yourself.
Mine is made from a wooden stick and two bent-up paperclips.

The real one is made from springier wire, we have one at work.

Ahh, this is the old white Apple keyboard with the clear 'crumb display case'
bottom, right? :-)

Hmm, the Apple keyboard I have to hand is the white one with the clear case,
and it's got three hex screws.

Again, we need to know what keyboard you have.

Missing keycaps can be replaced, but non-working keys are a different thing.

You can use any old USB keyboard with the Mac, there are programs to swap the
control and command keys on Windows keyboards so you can use them as well.

Your best bet might well just be to get a new keyboard.

I got a new keyboard, used, some of the function keys don't work

2010-06-07 Thread smac0031
I got a new keyboard, used, some of the function keys don't work. I
think I have enough parts to make one functional keyboard.

All the keys work on my bucktoothed keyboard except for the missing
F3. The new used keyboard has all the keys but the left command keys
and the spacebar don't work.

The simplest thing would seem to me is the pry the F3 off the new
keyboard and put it on the old keyboard.

Are there any tricks to this?

Also, what would make me very happy is to suck all the crumbs out of
my old keyboard. My shop vac was ineffective in sucking these things
out. I think I need to open the back of the keyboard to do this. I
notice there seem to be 4 screws with some sort of drive I don't
recognize with my readers on.

Is this a good idea? Can it be accomplished without much risk? What
tools do I need to accomplish this?

Mark, I think a lot of people here would be interested in knowing how
you increase the max ram from 2gb to 4gb on a Sawtooth. Please say.
