It wasn't the computer going to screensaver mode, it was the System Pref for Energy Saver, and the option is put hard disk to sleep when possible. Maybe you don't have it checked anyway. Sonnet tech confirmed that's a known issue and easy workaround. I have multiple G4s all running 10.5.8 and two

FCP doesn't read .wmv natively. If you have Flip 4 Mac Pro it should work because that is a Quicktime Plug In. If you don't have the Pro version of Flip 4 Mac, it is probably just going to waste your time importing a file with a big ugly watermark. AFAIK, you have to pay money to interpret

The reason why a PPC and an intel can both boot from 10.4 and 10.5 is because they have both the intel and the PPC code. Since they have both processor architecture codes, it won't care if it's a PPC or intel. It will only care if it has a bootup volume. I have an Internal 2.5 320GB SATA HDD
