There's only one rule for Migration assistant: You cannot use it to restore parts of an account that already exists on the target system. It's designed to move entire accounts. For instance: I have a new Mac B, my old Mac A with my user 'johnson'. I should NOT create a new user 'johnson' on Mac B, then try to run Migration Assistant. Instead I should log in as a different admin user and run Migration assistant to move over my stuff. If the new Mac is in pristine OS condition (ie: fresh install, no users yet) it's even simpler, you're asked during the setup process if you want to do it. You can connect your old mac via FWTM, if it supports it, or connect your backup volume. (Migration assistant expects either a Time Machine or bootable volume for this way). The last time I did a bunch of these I used network too, but this was with MacBooks that didn't have firewire. I don't know if the DA supports it. -- Bruce Johnson University of Arizona College of Pharmacy Information Technology Group Institutions do not have opinions, merely customs -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Where can I find a good explanation on using Migration Assistant?
I have finally decided to move to my G5. I backed up my HD on my DA G4. Can anyone recommend a tutorial or something on using the Migration Assistant. I'm going from 10.4.11 to 10.5 something.
