Yep, I think this right here is the biggest clue to your performance issues,
sadly…modern software presumes a certain amount of computing horsepower, in
terms of CPU and IO.

Thus it has always been; Applewriter ran well in 64K with 360K floppy disks on
my Apple ][+; TextEdit takes 6.1 mb on disk and that doesn’t count that
probably 50% of TextEdit’s code resides in standard OSX libraries elsewhere on
disk. After opening a 2K text file, it takes 14 mb of RAM.

MS Word 2016 preview weighs in at 1.49 GB on disk...

Re: Network Troubles

2015-09-05 Thread smac0031

I found a page at XLR8 your Mac where users reported dealing with non apple
pci gigabit cards. It turns out a lot of them, or at least more than enough
are compatible with 10.4x without any special drivers. I got a used one
coming from eBay.

I was looking at my hard drives and they are something like 80% full. I
have 120GB and 320GB. I'm thinking about replacing the 120 with a 500 and I
am
also looking for an i5 or i7 Macbook, 27 imac or a Mac Pro.

When I run my DA G4 with contemporaneous software, from the early 2000s it
does well. If I run newer stuff it gags.

Thanks for the Help
