Woz will be stretching the envelope and expending a lot of energy soon.

All that Segway balancing might have made him graceful!

Go for it Woz!

Re: OT Woz News

2009-02-08 Thread Charles

Good point. Sometimes CEOs are functional but I don't suppose it is
a necessity.

Sometimes they have a part of their job as Corporate Cheer-Leader...
and the guys directly below them pull the real strings...

I think he'd be good in the latter position.

 I then said
But there would be no better interim figurehead!

Bolster morale to the faithful troops and carry the flag etc.

Some think a professional CEO would care enough to do a good job
 for the company.

If it was an Apple insider, perhaps.

However, the days of hero-worship/us-verses-them has faded for most of us.
Crucial characteristics in today's CEO's are a cutting-edge grip on
marketing and the wisdom to delegate technological issues to competent VP's.

Yeah, good luck with that. Recent business news shows that what makes
a successful CEO is snatching up trainloads of cash in a golden
parachute after a few years as they decimate the company. Oh, they VPs
they follow along to make sure they get theirs.

Someone who cares about the company would be a start. CEOs tend to be
hired guns out just for their own agenda. Ask any former Amiga user.

Woz Lands Chief Scientist Gig at SSD Firm

By Chris Maxcer

Fusion-io's newest technical advisor is none other than Apple's other
Steve. Steve Wozniak, who cofounded Apple alongside Steve Jobs years
ago, will help Fusion-io formulate strategy as it attempts to grow in
the nascent enterprise-class solid-state drive market. SSDs have been
around for a while, but they're just beginning to gain a foothold in
enterprise-level storage applications.

Steve Wozniak, the man who cofounded Apple but hasn't held an official
position there in years, has snagged a job as the chief scientist for
Fusion-io, a Salt Lake City-based provider of enterprise solid-state
architecture and high-performance I/O (input/output) solutions.

Wozniak will act as a key technical advisor to the Fusion-io research
and development group. Plus, he'll work closely with the executive
team of Fusion-io in formulating company strategy.

With the revolutionary technological advances being made by
Fusion-io, the company is in the right place at the right time with
the right technology and ready to direct the history of technology
into the 21st century and beyond, Wozniak noted.

The technology marketplace has not seen such capacity for innovation
and radical transformation since the mainframe computer was replaced
by the home computer. Fusion-io's technology is extremely useful to
many different applications and almost all of the world's servers, he
added.

Prior to his appointment as chief scientist at Fusion-io, Wozniak was
a member of the company's advisory board, where Fusion-io he counseled
the company on market trends, product road maps and other strategic
activities.
