Here's another such report, Dan. I've been using Reunion since version
2 when it was based on HyperCard, and now I'm using the latest version
 9. To borrow Volvo's catch phrase, Reunion for life!

My wife and I use Reunion very happily. Aside from the excellence,
power, and features of the software package, the folks who participate
in the ReunionTalk forum are an excellent help in all things
genealogy. The forum is very friendly and helpful with newbie
questions. You cannot go wrong with Reunion.

Run a Google search on mac genealogy software reviews, and read some
of the web content. Beyond that, Dick Eastman has an interesting
review on MacFamilyTree version 5.6 at:
http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2009/07/macfamilytree-version-56.html#more
The price is attractive, but I cannot assess its video graphics
requirement, which seem quite advanced, against what is in your
iBook. Check the Profiles at lowendmac.com for your specific iBook.
Eastman has also written very favorable reports on Reunion through the
years. His latest annual review of Mac genealogy software is:

There are also a number of web-based genealogy solutions. I like
Geni.com, sort of a social network for families.

PPC Geneaology software - what's best?

2009-09-30 Thread Dan Usmar

Ho all,

Having recently bought a new MacBook, I'm loking to get my mum set up
with my now-spare G4 iBook. She's not anyone's definition of a power
user, so it should be fine for her purposes.

However, she has (very) extensive family tree in Family Tree Maker,
which Mac version was discontinued some time ago. I've got Virtual
PC, so I can go down that route if needs be, but I'd like not to - she
spends a lot of time on her tree, and emulation is glacial.

I've heard good things about Reunion - in fact it's what the Family
Tree Maker people recommend, but I know nothing about geneaology or
the software for it, so I could really do with some personal
recommendations. For any difference it makes, the iBook's running OS
X 10.5.8 (quite happily, too).

Regards,

Dan Usmar
