In other words, your LCD is headed southward like untold numbers of others. If it's a 20 iMac, it could be the video card or the LCD, but more likely the LCD if the external monitor's OK. Think about how many times you've seen a LEM Swap member looking for a good LCD for a 17 Intel iMac, then check the going price for a used one on eBay (@$200), if you doubt me. Been there, done that. That Thin Line
iMac 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo 10.6.8 second monitor screen running Just started having a very thin purple vertical line, seemingly dead- center of the main screen... what portends? -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. sigh... it's a 17... is the temp answer, with 2 screens running, to make the internal screen the secondary screen? Uh, yes, if you can't stand seeing that single line. It may take a while for more lines to appear, or the degradation may happen more quickly. About all you can do is use a second screen as the rest of the iMac itself will continue to work perfectly. On the other hand, I was asked recently to refurb two early-2006 17 Intel iMacs. They have perfect LCDs, but bad logic boards. Fortunately, because of the 17 iMac Bad Screen Plague, it's much, much less costly to replace a logic board than an LCD. As I said, been there, done all of that.
