Does that machine have a PRAM and CUDA button? If so dump both no matter
what you do. It could just be old settings and config causing problems.

Pulling the battery will dump the PRAM memory. If there is a CUDA switch on
the mobo yes, get a small stick, reach in and hold it down at least 60
seconds.
CUDA looks like a tiny silver square with a black or red tiny button in the
middle.
Somewhere online there will be a photo or digaram of
Reach in with a long reach bit and drill the head off the screw.
Or use one of those screw extractor bits ( with the tiny grip teeth) on a

If this machine does have a CUDA it is separate issue having to do with
hardware config.
Very often forgotten on the pre G3 machines.
If anything was changed hardware wise such a machine with a CUDA would not
see the current config but be set for an old one.
HD changes, memory, bus cards etc.
Is there a CUDA switch on this machine? Did you press it?

Compare the libraries for the display settings.
Open two windows or use a file manager utility like FileDaemon to look at
system files of each side by side comparing all display relevant files.
Figure out what is missing.
