Slot-loading iMacs (with the exception of some 350 MHz units I've seen) are capable of using the original 802.11b Airport card, with a special adapter. Tray-loading G3 iMacs were devoid of an Airport slot, but I believe can go wireless using a USB adapter. Google G3 iMac USB wi-fi or search the Low End Mac web site. You should get plenty of hits as I've seen this subject come up many times over the years. For example, they did not come with an Apple Hardware Test disk, and will not run an Apple Hardware Test that runs on later 400 MHz iMacs. Also, I seem to remember reading that some education iMacs didn't have Airport slots as a factory option, but I can't find the documentation. That may explain your non-Airport-capable 400 MHz iMac.
