Summary: Make the display picture the icon in the buddy list

Initial Comment:
Ubuntu 6.10

Currently the display pictures for each contact in the buddy list is on the
right of the entry and the IM network's icon is on the left. The suggestion
would be to make the icon on the left the display picture and eliminate the
need to have the two icons for every entry. The IM icons can still be viewed
with the tooltip. At the very least, making it an option would be a good idea.

Summary: Periodic crashes

Initial Comment:
Using GAIM 2.0.0beta6 debug on Windows XP.

Normally using MSN with Simp (Secway Instant Messenger Privacy) although a
jabber/Google account is normally signed in as well. I had to disable my AIM
account because it seemed to cause even more problems.

I cannot reproduce the crash at will but I typically do the following actions:
- Hibernate and move the computer to another network.
- VPN to other locations using the default gateway for the VPN.

Thanks for the response. I had also noticed that the crashes in the report
seemed to be in more than one place.

I'm not sure how to disable to Iconify on away plugin. The only plugin
enabled seems to be wingaim.

I'll also try upgrading GTK, I had chacked for the latest version but only
found 2.10.6 where I looked, I'll try the later one.

Thanks.

There are a couple different crashes in the report.
Most of them are in the Iconify on away plugin. You can try disabling it
and see if it fixes the crashing.
The last one looks like this bug:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=100235aid=1641878group_id=235
(Try GTK+ 2.10.11 from here:

)

Summary: Memory corruption when getting Jabber User Info

Initial Comment:
With the latest SVN of gaim as of today, I can reproduce a hideous crash simply
by logging into a jabber account, then requesting the User Info of one of my
buddies. Only with Jabber, requesting the User Info causes gaim to free an
invalid pointer, causing it to crash immediately without a stack trace.
Valgrind to the rescue, it reveals that there is a spot in
libgaim/jabber/buddy.c that is freeing an invalid pointer. Only trouble is...
the pointer is valid! I printed out the result of g_strdup that assigns the ID,
and then the pointer to be freed, and their addresses and values were
identical. I'm fairly sure g_strdup always returns a pointer that may be used
in g_free.

The problem is in libgaim/jabber/buddy.c on line 736, far as I can tell. I'll
attach my valgrind log (memcheck full) during a session where I caused this
crash. I have a hunch the problem isn't here at all, but instead somewhere else
where memory gets corrupted, and only on line 736 does the awful deed come to
light. Line 736 is ALWAYS reached by a pointer that can be freed, as I found
when adding a gaim_debug_log(jabber,ID Remove %p:%s,l-data,l-data);
around that g_free statement. Yet somehow glibc and valgrind both claim that an
invalid pointer is being freed. A very puzzling problem.

I should add that beta 6 does NOT have this problem. I can read the user infos
just fine. In fact I haven't noticed this crash in SVN since at least last
week, but I can't back that up. Anyone who knows the SVN version of beta 6 can
attach a diff here if they so please.

...ok, final note: I can't attach my valgrind log since sourceforge thinks it's
too big to attach. Try getting it from http://synx.us.to/valgrind.log

Summary: gaim-2.0.0-0.beta6.fc5.i386.rpm missing SSL?

Initial Comment:
I upgraded from gaim-1.5.0-15.fc5.i386 to gaim-2.0.0-0.beta6.fc5.i386 from the
Gaim SF repository. On 1.5.0-15 I was able to log onto Google Talk, but on
2.0.0-0 beta 6 I get:

Server does not use any supported authentication method

According to
http://www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py?answer=47934topic=1191
this is because Gaim was not compiled with SSL support. If
gaim-2.0.0-0.beta6.fc5.i386 does not include SSL, will a future release include
it? If it does include SSL, what is the problem?

The Gaim debug window gave the following when I tried to log into Google Talk:

The Gaim debug window gave the following when I tried to log into Google Talk:

account: Connecting to account username@gmail.com/Gaim
connection: Connecting. gc = 0x86f4848
dns: DNS query for 'talk.google.com' queued

I think you just need to install some additional cyrus-sasl RPMs. Maybe
cyrus-sasl plain and cyrus-sasl md5?

I'll
attach my valgrind log (memcheck full) during a session where I caused this
crash. I have a hunch the problem isn't here at all, but instead somewhere else
where memory gets corrupted, and only on line 736 does the awful deed come to
light. Line 736 is ALWAYS reached by a pointer that can be freed, as I found
when adding a gaim_debug_log(jabber,ID Remove %p:%s,l-data,l-data);
around that g_free statement.

Summary: System Tray Icon not flashing

Initial Comment:
Since updating to 2.0.0b6, I find that whenever I get a message at all, the
system tray icon shows that I have a new message. The problem is:
1)it never blinks/flashes anymore, whereas it used to flash for new
conversations that didn't have a window already open. It simply changes the
tray icon as having the away message up and a message pending. No flashing.
2)it now switches to the 'new message' icon whenever I get ANY message. Since
it doesn't flash either I can't tell if it's from a new person or not. (Before,
the only time it would tell me I had a message was when it was from someone who
I didn't currently have a conversation going on with (and I was away at the
time). If someone IMed me and I had a conversation window open, I knew because
the taskbar button flashed. Now I'm just getting confused.)

I played around with the Message Notification plugin, but that doesn't seem to
have anything to do with it. I guess I'm not sure if it's a bug or not, but I
really liked it notifying me only when I got a new conversation. And the
flashing.

Thanks,
squid

Well that makes it flash all the time, for new and currently open

If you right-click on the system tray icon there is a blink on new

It always used to for me. It was quite handy, to be sure. Currently it
sometimes flashes for some new messages and alternately won't flash/blink
at all, and the only way to see if I have new messages is to open the buddy
list and look for the icon in the upper corner.

Initial Comment:
Haven't been able to get onto MSN all day today (16 Mar 07). Gaim 1.5 seems to
get to sending and receiving cookies, and then just never continues (doesn't
hang). Tried connecting using aMSN and that's giving no joy either so I'm
assuming it's a protocol change.

MSN site shows that there was some sort of upgrade, doesn't say when theough...

This bug can be closed. Everything is working again so it must have been a
hiccup at Microsoft.

I'm running 1.5.0 on my SuSE 10 linux box and it connects fine. So it
seems to be something with the Windows port possibly. I'm not sure if
this is a relevant question to ask but do you guys also have IE7
installed?

Agreed - I am finding the same issue. Can connect with other protocols but
MSN seems to have made a change that has broken Gaim, once again.

Summary: bad hint box (on contact list)

Initial Comment:
When I move cursor over some item in contact list, the hint is displaying, but
this hint is no good.
1. It covers another items (It have to cover but I can't control this)
2. When moving cursor a bit to up or right or left, hint is still in same place
3. When moving cursor a bit down, hint is hiding and displaing again (after so
long time)
It isn't good, user friendly behaviour. It should be implemented as dynamic
box, that is displaing rapidly and follows by cursor. I suggest that left-top
corner of the box should be near cursor position.

Sorry for my poor english.
Regards.

Summary: Gaim Buddy List Widens itself continually

Initial Comment:
I have recently compiled the Beta 6 version on Gentoo.

If this helps, these are the Gentoo USE flags I've used.

net-im/gaim-2.0.0_beta6 USE=crypt dbus gtk msn nls perl spell ssl
xscreensaver -avahi -bonjour -cjk -console -custom-cflags -debug -doc -eds
-gadu -gnutls -groupwise -gstreamer -meanwhile -mono -qq -sasl -silc
-startup-notification -tcl -tk

I log in to 4 accounts with Gaim, my Gmail Jabber, AIM, MSN, and Yahoo.

During most of the day, I leave an Away message up on all accounts except
Yahoo, which I leave as invisible.

When I come back to my computer, I click on the tray icon to see the buddy
list. If my Yahoo account has received email, the buddy list will say at the
top You have email and widen itself horizontally. But it keeps doing this.
The first time I didn't know what was going on, and it widened itself to almost
three times my screen resolution (which is 1024 pixels wide). The only way to
make it stop is to click on where it says You have email.

So far this has happened every time I'm away and receive email.

I was unsure if I should place this bug report with you guys, or with the
Gentoo developers... But it seems to me like this is a bug in Gaim code.

It's a minor annoyance; I'm sure you all have more important things to be
working on, but I thought I would just bring this to your attention.

Thank you

When using QQ through GAIM, GAIM crash on sendnig message (i.e. click enter
after enter message) if the font colour I use is not the gaim default (black).

note: I set my font colour in preference, so it affects all messagers. But
it'll only crash GAIM when using QQ.
