That said, this bug has been around since probably 0.8 or before; I've had gaim a long time and this bug won't die. Do close this report if you recognise the bug and know it's fixed in 2.0b4 or 5 or the new GTK+. I will upgrade to a new beta once a new GTK+/Win32 is available with the patched WIMP. After a conversation window has been in use a bit, say a few hours, each time you focus the window, the window title is deleted and reset a few times in rapid succession, causing it to flicker. The window is not drawn in until this is done. Over time, and with lots of use, it can sit flickering for a whole second (just timed it, exactly one second) before window redraw. Closing the window fixes this, but it means closing all tabs and breaking off all conversation logs. The cause is conversation window flashing. I've tried gaim with all plugins disabled, sound disabled, and conversation window flashing disabled. The bug disappears. Enable window flashing, it returns. Due to a bug in beta 6 where the window will flash even when focused, you can trigger the bug very easily now. Each time you flash the conversation window, it seems to "wear out" the window a bit more. The amount of times you flash the window seems to be directly proportional to how long the title bar flickers from the title being deleted and reinstated. A good trigger is to message an IRC bot and ask for help. In beta 6 (GTK+ 2.10.8, Windows 2000) each message from the bot will flash the title bar even when the window is active and focused (separate bug, reported), in rapid succession.
