Summary: Gaim going to foreground as only notification

Initial Comment:
It is extremely annoying that the only way I get
notified of events is that gaim goes to the foreground
"Raise window on event" can't you blink the toolbar as
Messenger does in windows?

Gaim 0.71
Kde 3.13
Gentoo 1.4

Thank you
Anders

the appearing on your screen is optional. the taking the
forgeground is a function of using focus follows mouse (i'm
betting you use focus follows mouse at least). the blinking
is only possible on window managers that support the URGENT
hint. not many do.

Thanks for the tip - I think I'll try the plugin.

Still - I find the windows blinking feature quite
unobtrusive (compared to a GAIM window appearing on my
screen - and taking foreground ; )

I think the GNOME desktop has a blinking feature - and I'll
start hoping for KDE to get one :-)

Why don't you give this plugin (Popup Notify) a try:
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?
func=detail&aid=782047&group_id=235&atid=390395

It popups up a small window at anycorner of the screen and
notifies you of a few simple events, such as buddy
logon/logoff, buddy goes away/comes back, buddy goes
idle/unidle. The window timeout can be set manually.

BTW, the KDE panel doesn't have a toolbar blinking feature.
None that I know of anyway.

Just my opinion: I find any kind of onscreen blinking to be
quite annoying (e.g., flash based advertisements <--- i hate
those things soooo much).
