Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Jaska (ajaska) Assigned to: Etan Reisner (deryni9) Summary: In tabbed mode conversation window is not raised on event Initial Comment: Gaim version <= 1.0.2. In tabbed mode Gaim should raise tab on event. Currently tab only changes it's color. This makes difficult to note when you have received a message when multiple tabs are active. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2007-04-20 11:00 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 Originator: NO As we are closing this tracker, please submit any feature request that is still valid to http://developer.pidgin.im. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2005-01-07 21:08 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 okay, so given Etan's comments, this is a feature request. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Etan Reisner (deryni9) Date: 2005-01-07 05:56 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=516184 The answer is to use the Message Notification plugin which ships with gaim, or the guifications plugin (guifications.sf.net), or the gaimosd plugin (gaimosd.sf.net), or any of the other message notification options available. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jaska (ajaska) Date: 2005-01-07 05:50 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=604389 Thanks deryni9, for making my thougths clearer :-) That's exactly what I meant. The real problem arises when I have so many conversations open that some tabs are hidden. It is very difficult to notice that hidden tab has received a message. Currently, if I have many conversation windows open, I switch tabbed mode off. You are right about focus steling. It may be disturbing. Maybe there is some workaround for this problem but I can not think of any right now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Etan Reisner (deryni9) Date: 2005-01-03 21:56 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=516184 I don't think this person is saying that the window doesn't raise, I think he's asking that the tab for the conversation that gets the message be brought to the front, which if I'm right is a horrible idea, since it would interrupt you when typing in other tabs. And if you thought that people got upset when the conversation window stole focus from another application just wait until gaim starts stealing focus from its own tabs. So, ajaska is that what you were asking for? That the tab that got the message be made the active tab? Oh, and as to windows not being raised under some wms, that could be for a number of reasons. Recent versions of metacity and kde probably support the focus stealing prevention stuff which makes window raising iffy-ier (as I recall it working), and wms are entirely free to ignore a windows request to raise itself, IIRC what the ICCCM says. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2004-11-20 09:54 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 it happens some in metacity, kde, and now apparently windowmaker. that's a pretty diverse set of window managers, so i am not so sure its entirely a wm bug. that being said, i have very little clue how how to debug this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Caleb Gilmour (caleb_gilmour) Date: 2004-11-17 05:39 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=260992 This should be changed from a 'bug' to a 'support request' Gaim is behaving correctly, and the window manager isn't. I've heard of this behaviour with metacity in the past, and the problem was in the way metacity handles what gaim is doing (compared to almost every other window manager). I haven't heard of this issue with WindowMaker before, though someone else might have and found a solution. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jaska (ajaska) Date: 2004-11-17 03:49 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=604389 Seems to be metacity window manager. Same effect with WindowMaker 0.80. 1. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Caleb Gilmour (caleb_gilmour) Date: 2004-11-16 15:58 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=260992 Do you know which window manager you're using under GNOME? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jaska (ajaska) Date: 2004-11-16 09:47 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=604389 Usually I'm using RedHat 8.0 and gnome (gtk2-2.2.4, libgnome-2.0.2). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Caleb Gilmour (caleb_gilmour) Date: 2004-11-16 07:18 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=260992 This works fine for me on Linux using KDE. I don't think it works very well on windows, because of GTK issues. Can you tell us which operating system and desktop environment this is happening on? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=350235&aid=1067233&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
