Category: None Group: None Status: Closed Resolution: Fixed Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: KR-data (kr-data) Assigned to: Etan Reisner (deryni9) Summary: CTRL+Z and description boxes Initial Comment: Simply follow the standards. CTRL+Z is a standard shortcut for undo. Either remove all funtionalyty from CTRL+Z, make its fuction to UNDO or at least give the user a choice. It is so annoying to be used to a functionality from every program, and it changes in one single program. Secondly, in windows, when I hold my curser over a contact and get that little description box of the user, it doesn't dissapear everytime I want it to e.g. when I alt+tab to another window. Otherwise, I love your messenger, so please fix those two, and it would be perfect. I'm not sure how I missed all those comments that explained exactly what I was asking. Guess I'll have to go fix a bug or work on a adding feature now to make up for it :-P. My window manager (at work) is explorer.exe so that settles that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Etan Reisner (deryni9) Date: 2007-03-06 20:43 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=516184 Originator: NO Which "last comment" are you talking about? The last comment I can see is mine which says nothing about looking into anything and in fact specifically mentions having removed the ctrl-z minimize binding from gaim. It also states that people who want a ctrl-z minimize binding should look to their window managers to do it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Adam Nichols (mradamnichols) Date: 2007-03-06 12:03 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1736936 Originator: NO The last comment said that this would be looked into, however the status is closed with no explanation if the key binding was removed, made optional or is now able to be overridden. I'm using 2.0.0beta6 and it appears that ctrl+z has no effect. Can someone confirm this has simply been removed? Also, is there any remaining keyboard command to minimize / iconify an IM window? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Etan Reisner (deryni9) Date: 2005-03-08 17:19 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=516184 I've pulled the in gaim grabbing of ctrl-z from cvs HEAD. This won't give you your wanted undo functionality but it will let you use ctrl-z for anything you want. The people used to using ctrl-z to minimize can figure out how to use their window manager for that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2005-01-31 18:08 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 i'm going to ignore the second part of this report, as it is massively duplicate. if you like, you can monitor any of a number of entries in the gtk bugs tracker, or go directly to the source in gtk/gnome's bugzilla. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2005-01-31 18:05 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 control-z is only "standard" on windows. but windows does not matter. you will notice that gaim is first and foremost a unix program. and to say control-z is standard for undo on unix is just ludicrous. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Etan Reisner (deryni9) Date: 2005-01-31 04:02 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=516184 Dealing with your second report first (by the way one bug in a report is generally a better idea): The tooltips not disappearing is a gtk bug not a gaim one, I don't know the details of it's status but if you check the gtk tracker, the closed bugs in this tracker, and/or the forums you will see that it's been discussed an incredible amount of times. I'm not sure how safely one could claim that ctrl-z is a standard for undo (seeing as how I know other uses for it and other keycombos for undo). However, I agree that gaim should grab as few keys as is possible without letting the user override them. As such I will look into removing the grabbing of ctrl-z from inside gaim (or at least make it changeable). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=350235&aid=1112820&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
