An average user might have heard that gaim is a good client so he installs it. But when he starts it there' s no systray icon like in the other clients. Experienced users will discover they need to turn on the Systray plugin but it can be problem for "normal people". Another thing that should be IMO enabled out of box is Logging of IM (History). Users are used to looking into logs but they can be frustrated when they discover they had needed to enable it first. Additionally History plugin (pasting recent conversation) should be enabled too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2007-04-12 12:16 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 Originator: NO As we are closing this tracker, please submit any feature request that is still valid to http://developer.pidgin.im. But tray is really useful. Not only in win. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Laager (rlaager) Date: 2006-03-23 13:24 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=156487 I agree with deryni. That just leaves the system tray plugin. Daniel, do you think we should enable the system tray plugin by default on Windows (assuming we don't already)? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Etan Reisner (deryni9) Date: 2006-03-23 12:23 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=516184 I have no problem treating Windows as a distribution and having our Windows builds turn certain things on by default. I do think we need to be careful what we turn on though, so things like Logging are a no no (since we don't want to default to logging possibly sensitive conversations, and using peoples disk space). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: pholie (pholie) Date: 2006-03-23 07:09 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1321263 Ok, comes to my mind, what about windows? There are default settings, those that you make, right? If gaim wants to be used by average people you should change your minds. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Laager (rlaager) Date: 2006-02-21 10:33 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=156487 Distros can and do make these customizations for their users. I'd rather we not enable a bunch of stuff out of the box. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=350235&aid=1435786&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
