If someone IMs you and their screen name or alias is longer than the current longest tab you have open, it causes the tabs to widen to accomodate the new tab's width. This causes gaim to sometimes lock up as it has to redraw each open windows text that wraps multiple lines, since the width of the conversation portion of the window has changed. This sometimes causes gaim to completely freeze and it needs to be forcefully quit. So basically I was wondering if it would be possible to have a setting for maximum tab width (perhaps this can already be done/could be allowed through gtkrc hackery?) Although I did mention possible crashes as one reason to have maximum tab widths, I meant this more as a general customization option. And I didn't mean an already present (but very large) maximum tab width. For example, most of the people I talk to regularly, and channels I frequent, are aliased down to 4-6 letter names or so. So if someone with a much longer name IM's me, it changes the size of the text area of the window (referring to left or right placement of tabs) and when this happens, gaim has to pause to redraw the windows that have large wraparounds of text to fit the new widths (this seeming to be the cause of the occasional but not easily reproducible crash).
