Summary: adding ICQ file transfer?

Initial Comment:
Adding the ablity to do ICQ file transfer would be very handy. At the moment I
am forced to go to another client (trillian at the moment) when I wish to do a
file transfer. Since ICQ and AIM both use OSCAR, and Gaim currently suports
AIM file transfer, couldn't this be added fairly simply (yes I know nothing is
ever as simple as you think in programming)?

Hmm interesting. However in this case both clients were online at the
time of my testing. I didn't even get the option to TRY and send a file.
It was not even in the list as a option. So I have not even had the
clients complaning since I don't get the option to start a file transfer
in the first place. And with regard to other clients (even offical ICQ
clients) , when I clicked on "get AIM info" I found that under
capabilities it does not even list them as being able to do a file
transfer yet they are using the official client. And they also didn't get
a option to send me a file. So it is not just a matter of the clients
complaning, it won't even acknowledge that it is possible. Very odd.

I've noticed that a file transfer on ICQ is only possible, if both clients
are _online_ (not away or n/a or something like that). File transfer from
ICQ to gaim and vice versa works fine for me, even though I'm sitting
behind a proxy that doesn't accept connections from outside. I have just
tested sending a file from Trillian to gaim, which didn't work since
Trillian was complaining about me not showing my IP adress (which isn't
quite true... I've deactivated the "ICQ/AIM proxy server" option in the
account preferences).

Upon further testing there are a lot of client that are apparently not
compatiable. For example I can't send a file to someone using Trillain
and vice versa. Gaim does not even give me the option. The problem I
mentioned before was most likely due to a bad connection on their side
(after doing more testing). But this is more serious of a issue since
many clients apparently don't allow a file exchange with Gaim. Also this
is not just 3rd party clients, as the offical ICQ Mac OS 3.4 client does
not work with Gaim with reagard to file transfers either. Very strange,
especially since of all the clients I would think that Trillian would do a
tranfer with Gaim.

Hmm I tried it the other day several times and it would start connecting
then drop befor the file actually got transfered. I will try it again,
perhaps it was only that person and/or that day.

ICQ file transfer works great for me. Where's your problem. Just
right-click a buddy and choose "Send File". There shouldnt be a problem.
