Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Anthony (thoughts) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: service-type icons / away icons Initial Comment: I just upgraded to gaim 0.68, and the icon situation got even worse. With AIM, you can tell at at glance who's away, because they have a big yellow icon next to their name. But with gaim, every buddy using AOL/AIM has an their service-type icon next to their name, and the "away" icon is the same exact icon with a tiny little yellow "post-it" on top. So my complaint is: 1.) There should be an option to disable the service-type icon, INDEPENDENT of the away icon. They are fundamentally different; service-type is like "properties" of the buddy, but the away-icon is a status indicator. 2.) #1 would of course first require the dis-integration of the away icon and the service-type icon. The bottom line here is that the away icon is a status indicator that frequently changes for any given user. The service-type icon indicates a property of the user that NEVER CHANGES and as such, doesn't warrant a permanent (non-defeatable) chunk of buddy list real-estate. And the usefulness of the away icon is greatly diminished when it's obfuscated by a service-type icon that can't be disabled. (And the new two-line display option isn't a fix for this... that's even more confusing, and makes it almost impossible to get any information from your buddy list "at a glance"; by intermingling the status ("away" etc) with the usernames, it completely clutters and confuses the display.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2007-04-17 15:42 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 Originator: NO As we are closing this tracker, please submit any feature request that is still valid to http://developer.pidgin.im.
