I like this idea. I never have the formatting toolbar on, except as part of a sequence like this: enable formatting toolbar, click smiley button, click a smiley, disable formatting toolbar I just looked at the code... It looks like we'd need to connect a key handler in gtkimhtml.c and have it call insert_smiley_cb in gtkimhtmltoolbar.c (which would mean making that public in some way, though not directly). Even if it does not, the code base will be so different as to require that the debugging process start over. Unfortunately, we are not yet sure when 2.0.0 will be released.
