1. Introduction to the Center for Education and Counselling of Women (CESI)
in Croatia

CESI is a women's not-for-profit, non-governmental organization established
in
response to problems of the violation of human rights, nationalism,
militarisation,
and the deterioration of economic standards in the post-war period in
Croatia. It was founded
by members of several women's and peace initiatives all of whom have many
years
of professional experience working with women war survivors.  CESI's main
goal is
to empower women to gain control over their lives and to improve their
psychological,
economic, and physical well-being, and to promote gender equality.
CESI is also a member of the Women's Network of Croatia, the Antiwar
Campaign of Croatia and ASTRA - CEE/CIS European Women's Network for Sexual
and Reproductive Health and Rights.  GainsNet is pleased to welcome CESI to
the Network.

1. Association of Uganda Women Medical Doctors (AUWMD) seeks funding to
participate in the 2001 Stockholm Challenge

The Association of Uganda Women Medical Doctors (AUWMD) is one of the
finalists in the 2001 Stockholm Challenge under the category of  'Health and
Quality of Life'. AUWMD's project titled     "Providing information
electronically on reproductive health" aims at disseminating information on
reproductive health to women NGO's connected electronically so that they can
use the information in their advocacy and other related activities. AUWMD is
currently seeking financial support for the travel and accommodation
expenses
associated with participating in the Award activities in September 2001.

1. Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) Update Newsletter / Uganda / August

Three new women's organizations have joined WOUGNET:  The Association of
Uganda Women Lawyers - FIDA, whose mission is to assist women, children and
other indigent groups attain effective legal protection; Uganda Women's
Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO), which seeks to empower local communities to
meet the social, moral, and economic needs of orphans in a sustainable
manner; and  Uganda Women's Network (UWONET), which promotes networking
action for gender equality.  WOUGNET also has new links to resources on
ICTs, the environment, human rights, and women.
