UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN LECTURER AFRICAN GENDER INSTITUTE (Two-year contract post)
The African Gender Institute (AGI) was established in 1996, as a research, outreach and teaching unit based within the Humanities Faculty at UCT. Through our academic programme at AGI, we seek to contribute to gender justice through a focus on intellectual work, the goals being: . Challenging gender-blindness/African-blindness of teaching and research; . Building interactive communities of researchers, teachers, academic managers and students; . Building the research and analytical capacity with respect to African rooted gender analysis of the academic community, ensuring that theories are contextually relevant. We will particularly welcome applications from candidates familiar with African contexts, and who will be able to contribute intellectual expertise in International Feminist Theory, Gender Analysis and Research Methodology. As the successful candidate for this two-year contract post, you will be expected to: . Provide first-class teaching; . Supervise research projects at both undergraduate and graduate levels; . Conduct research which will contribute to the broader goals of the AGI; . Contribute significantly to the continued development of the academic programme. Requirements include: . A graduate qualification (Masters and above) in an appropriate area; . A good research and publication record; . A commitment to multi-disciplinary approaches; . The ability to teach and work effectively with a wide range of people; . Excellent planning and organisational skills.
