Funny, but a year ago I've asked the same all question, and I'm facing with
the same problem again:
I've just installed Lubuntu 12.10 and the installed gambas3 application's
icon won't shown up in the menu. I've tried different icon themes, but no
use. Why this issue with LXDE?

Hello,
May be it's the same option like in Gnome. A variable can be set to your
Desktop to display or not the icons in the Menus.
In gnome, your need the use gconf2 utility to do that.
You can see in this way.

Thanks for clarifying, it's easy enough to write my own routine
doing what I wan't, ie replace a single line with everything else
intact I just tought it would be handy to have this function in
gb.settings since I use already use that to read config values.
