hi ron, it will improve but you have to train the sub skill with the skill
of weaponry as well.
every 10 levels you should notice a difference.

skill and for each 10 times you train weaponry or a sub skill, your mr goes
up by one

It only affects your MR when you're usig a weapon associated with that
subskill, so unless you're using a sword, Slashing's not going to do you any
good. And you can't unlearn a skill once you acquire it. I don't know any
