Hi all.
When buying something in a player market I get the plannet location but not a
star system.
I got stuff from tagons tribute.
Now where it is I have no idea.
its not a system and I can't find it, it would be a good thing if a system
location as well as galaxy location was put there.
if I knew the system I could plot there.
Interestingly I was able to use nvda in the player market and this worked.
I finnished the rader mission but now I have 4 renigades, and they are real
tough.
sigh
I may just have to forget stuff.
I can't get really good armour that is not to expensive or is not out of my
levels range or pricing.
I probably will have to come back and do this mission with a shield system as
I am missing one.

Hello.

I will now post my findings regarding this method of connecting to
simutronics games, just after trying to connect using a new character.

I have seen an article similar to the post below, in an issue of audyssey
magazine from a while back. In fact, what prompted me to write my
messages a few months ago to this list regarding playing simutronics games
with a mud client was that, following those instructions given below,
there did not appear to be a file called gse.~xt in the root directory or
any directory for that matter. I then ran a windows search on all files
and folders on the hard drive, and no files of any kind were listed with
the ~xt extention.

After reading chad's message, I decided to try it all again.

So, I just recreated an account, created a character from the website,
selected the wizard front end, downloaded the game launcher and connected
via the wizard front end, and quit to log out. Then, went to the
downloads section of the play.net site, downloaded the Simutronics desktop
game entry, installed it, ran it, selected my character and the wizard
front end, logged in, quit, and then looked for the sge.~xt file in the
root directory of the hard drive. And, like I said, there was no file on
my hard drive with that extention. Also, and finally, I did tripplecheck
to make sure that I have show hidden files turned on in the options view
tab.

After looking at the downloads page, the simutronics desktop game entry
program appeared to be the only game entry program around. Perhaps
simutronics has changed something between gemstone III and gemstone IV?
When were you able to successfully log into these muds in the way
described below?

Thanks for posting this, and I will monkey around with the other files
listed in the simutronics directories at some point. Maybe all the info
is hidden in another file with another extention. grin

Yeah I quit my renigade mission to handle some trading, its quite boring right

As for out game things I don't know, the out of game shop where you buy stuff

up having to use them, I didn't want to get a shield until I had the auto
repare system for it. That took a loot of device skill, not to
mention money.

Oh, and shields also cost energy, though sinse i've bought an engine from the
cp store with a pretty huge energy output, this isn't as much of a big deal.

I've now got to make enough cash for the various things I need, then I'll
give that marauder what for!

Well once again, levels will have to wait.

After being beaten up by that marauder, even trying missiles which
didn't work, I'm finally giving in to pressure.

I've reset my Ip and so will be getting a shield, a tw system and as a bonus
a better passenger cabin as soon as I have the money.

Hi all.
When buying something in a player market I get the plannet location but
not a star system.
I got stuff from tagons tribute.
Now where it is I have no idea.
its not a system and I can't find it, it would be a good thing if a
system location as well as galaxy location was put there.
if I knew the system I could plot there.
Interestingly I was able to use nvda in the player market and this
worked.
I finnished the rader mission but now I have 4 renigades, and they are
real tough.
sigh
I may just have to forget stuff.
I can't get really good armour that is not to expensive or is not out of
my levels range or pricing.
I probably will have to come back and do this mission with a shield
system as I am missing one.

I'd strongly advise a passenger cabin, you really can get lots of money
in hawlage and trading that way. Buying extractors (if you can spare the Ip
for survey skill), and mining drones also helps.

combat drones aren't that expensive at all, I just for instance stuck
my old lvl one drone on the markit for I believe 20 K, you also can
only have one at once in battle, they do make a big difference though.

when I've got a couple more levels, I'm thinking I'll buy a new ship from
the player store, sinse their only about 13 dollars or so, where as their
about 7 million in game.

Sinse I bought a peetza at the weakend for about that price, I think i can
afford it to save me the weaks and weaks of cash saving in game it'd take
otherwise.

Yeah I quit my renigade mission to handle some trading, its quite boring
right now, but for now at least I can't do much.
I have as high armour as I can afford, maybe I will get up maybe 60 grand
eventually to get combat drones, maybe enough to get 20-40 of the beggers
then maybe I may try again.
Yeah shields are not on my list, new armour is, and maybe a new ship,
since ships have base armour and energy so thats that.
As for out game things I don't know, the out of game shop where you buy
stuff for the game has limited things at any rate I can probably get most
what I need in the player market.

Re: [Audyssey] playing Simutronics games via telnet

2009-10-19 Thread Chad Fenton
I was able to do this a few months ago. Admittedly I haven't tested it
recently, so things may have changed between now and then. I'm curious to
try it again myself now. Perhaps VIP Mud will have Simutronics support in
their next version, but this method has been available since the late 90s.
Maybe Simutronics made it unavailable, but there should be a file containing
the information. Maybe it's a file with the .sal extension. I'll look into
it.

Maybe all the info
is hidden in another file with another extention. grin

Subject: [Audyssey] playing Simutronics games via telnet

Hi, all. I recently was reviewing the archives of recent messages and
saw a discussion of the muds offered through Simutronics. In case anyone
is not aware, it is possible to play these games with your favorite mud
client of choice. To do so, you first must have an account with
Simutronics for the game you wish to play. Here is how I've been able to
play these muds through telnet in the past.

Once you have an account and have downloaded the Simutronics launcher
program and Wizard front-end, I'd also encourage you download a program
called Simutronics game entry, which will allow you to log into the game
by inputting your account name, password, and the game you wish to play.
It may be called Ultimate Simutronics Game Entry now. Once you have
logged in, the wizard program will load and put you into the game, and
you'll likely hear some music to let you know you're in the mud. Then
you'll have to type quit to exit the game.

Here's where the fun begins: playing through telnet. When you log into
the game with the wizard, a file is put into the root directory of your
hard drive, usually your C drive. The file is called gse.~xt. It
contains the authentication login key you'll need to access the game, and
as an added bonus, it contains the host name and port you will telnet
into, which I think is something like gs3.simutronics.net 4900. Copy
everything after key= to the clipboard, as it will be the login key
you'll use momentarily. It'll look like a long series of letters and
numbers.

Now you will run your mud client of choice and telnet to
gs3.simutronics.net 4900. When you connect, your screen reader won't say
anything. Now just paste the login key and hit Enter, then type the word
JAVA, all in caps, and press Enter, whereupon you should see please wait
for connection to game server. Now you're playing the game using
telnet.

If you log out and wait more than fifteen minutes or so, the login key
you used to get in will be invalid, so you'll need to enter the game
using the Simutronics Game Entry program and quit, following the steps I
mentioned earlier, in order to play once again.

The other Simutronics

[Audyssey] Follow-up to Simutronics playing through telnet

2009-10-19 Thread Chad Fenton
I'll experiment wih this later, as I'm surprised the original method I
plsted may not work, but I found alternative instructions from about a month
ago on a Gemstone IV forum regarding playing with a non-supported Simutronics
client. They are similar to what I originally posted, just looking for a
different file with a .sal extension. I've rewritten the instructions in
places for conciseness and clarification.

1. Log in to your Simutronics account at the GS website and go to the Go
Play! page.
2. Select the character with which you wish to play. Don't log in to the game
yet.
3. Select either the Wizard or Stormfront as your client.
4. Click the Go Play! button. When you do this, your web browser should
hopefully attempt to open a file ending in .sal. Save that file to your disk.
5. Open the saved .sal file in Notepad. The most important lines are the last
three lines, starting with GAMEHOST, GAMEPORT, and KEY.
6. Now go into GMUD or your client of choice. Enter whatever comes after the
'=' in the GAMEHOST line as the Host to which you want to connect.
7. Enter the GAMEPORT into your client's field.
8. Connect to the game. The client will connect and then appear to hang. What
it's doing is waiting for your KEY and your front-end choice. We'll enter
that in the next two steps.
9. Copy whatever comes after the '=' in the KEY line of the .sal file directly
into the MUD client and hit enter. This will send your key to the Simu server;
it will seem as if there is no response.
10. Now type into your MUD client the following (and then hit enter): /FE:JAVA

That should connect you to the game. Good luck!

Re: [Audyssey] Trade Offices in Core Exiles

2009-10-19 Thread David Chittenden

Hello,

You will need to purchase a nuclear power plant, increase your
appropriate tech skill to the required number, have the required level
of captain, and then go in to the ship adjust link and click on one of
the two weapon/en buttons. You then equip the power plant and will be
able to power more things. I recommend using the buyer market as almost
everything is less expensive than the shops.

So, after I hooked up my basic nuclear power plant, I went and purchased
a nice cargo expander. I did not properly read the power requirements on
the cargo expander, and have a ship which now has 1500 units of power
and an expander which requires 1700 units of power. As soon as the power
plant which I want comes up on the buyers market while I am at one of
the market interfaces, I am purchasing it. I will then be able to take
some contracts from the larger shipping company as well. Only 10 more
levels before I am at the level for the ship I want. I wonder if I can
earn the several million credits for it by then. Maybe with 40 more
holds I can work towards it more rapidly.

you are heading through those systems, you can stop off to see about
picking up cargo.

Also, when you save enough money, you can purchase a basic passenger
module and then take on passengers. Passengers are available at every
station, but you need to increase your power if you want to run
weapons and scanners at the same time as the passenger module.

Doing a windows search, this was the only .sal file on the hard drive. But,
I will go through these instructions and save the sal file to disc as the

1. Log in to your Simutronics account at the GS website and go to the Go

3. Select either the Wizard or Stormfront as your client.

hopefully attempt to open a file ending in .sal. Save that file to your
disk.
5. Open the saved .sal file in Notepad. The most important lines are the
last three lines, starting with GAMEHOST, GAMEPORT, and KEY.
6. Now go into GMUD or your client of choice. Enter whatever comes after
the '=' in the GAMEHOST line as the Host to which you want to connect.

7. Enter the GAMEPORT into your client's field.
8. Connect to the game. The client will connect and then appear to hang.
What it's doing is waiting for your KEY and your front-end choice. We'll
enter

that in the next two steps.
9. Copy whatever comes after the '=' in the KEY line of the .sal file
directly into the MUD client and hit enter. This will send your key to the
Simu server;

it will seem as if there is no response.
10. Now type into your MUD client the following (and then hit enter):
/FE:JAVA

That should connect you to the game. Good luck!

using a third party client is, using a non-activeX browser, login via the
website and try to log into the game. When it asks you what you want to
use
to open the file the system uses, save it. Now open that in a text editor,
try logging in with your third party client, and use the contents of the
login key you saved as the first string sent from your client.

The login key is only good for a while so every login, you'd need to go
through that process again, but in theory it does work.

2009-10-19 Thread Jeremy Hartley

Hey folks,

Ok, I managed to just get into gemstone iv with VipMud. What I had to do
was use firefox to log into my account. When I clicked the go play button,
a page came up saying that if my browser didn't launch using active x to
click here. When I did, firefox brought a file save dialog with my
character's .sal file, ie, grogrond.sal. I then saved it to disc, and
opened it in notepad, and copied the key to the clipboard, and used the host
of prime.gs4.game.play.net and the port of 4900 entered into the host and
port sections in vipMud. Then, I pasted the key from the clipboard and hit
enter. I then typed FE/JAVA and hit enter. And I am now in!

My guess is that you could do the same thing in IE, but you will have to
disable active-x?

Anyway, just my findings.

Hello.

I will now post my findings regarding this method of connecting to
simutronics games, just after trying to connect using a new
character.

I have seen an article similar to the post below, in an issue of
audyssey magazine from a while back. In fact, what prompted me to
write my messages a few months ago to this list regarding playing
simutronics games with a mud client was that, following those
instructions given below, there did not appear to be a file called
gse.~xt in the root directory or any directory for that matter. I
then ran a windows search on all files and folders on the hard
drive, and no files of any kind were listed with the ~xt extention.

After reading chad's message, I decided to try it all again.

So, I just recreated an account, created a character from the
website, selected the wizard front end, downloaded the game
launcher and connected via the wizard front end, and quit to log
out. Then, went to the downloads section of the play.net site,
downloaded the Simutronics desktop game entry, installed it, ran
it, selected my character and the wizard front end, logged in,
quit, and then looked for the sge.~xt file in the root directory of
the hard drive. And, like I said, there was no file on my hard
drive with that extention. Also, and finally, I did tripplecheck
to make sure that I have show hidden files turned on in the options
view tab.

After looking at the downloads page, the simutronics desktop game
entry program appeared to be the only game entry program around.
Perhaps simutronics has changed something between gemstone III and
gemstone IV? When were you able to successfully log into these muds
in the way described below?

Thanks for posting this, and I will monkey around with the other
files listed in the simutronics directories at some point. Maybe
all the info is hidden in another file with another extention. grin

Hi, all. I recently was reviewing the archives of recent messages
and saw a discussion of the muds offered through Simutronics. In
case anyone is not aware, it is possible to play these games with
your favorite mud client of choice. To do so, you first must have
an account with Simutronics for the game you wish to play. Here
is how I've been able to play these muds through telnet in the past.

Once you have an account and have downloaded the Simutronics
launcher program and Wizard front-end, I'd also encourage you
download a program called Simutronics game entry, which will allow
you to log into the game by inputting your account name, password,
and the game you wish to play. It may be called Ultimate
Simutronics Game Entry now. Once you have logged in, the wizard
program will load and put you into the game, and you'll likely
hear some music to let you know you're in the mud. Then you'll
have to type quit to exit the game.

Here's where the fun begins: playing through telnet. When you log
into the game with the wizard, a file is put into the root
directory of your hard drive, usually your C drive. The file is
called gse.~xt. It contains the authentication login key you'll
need to access the game, and as an added bonus, it contains the
host name and port you will telnet into, which I think is
something like gs3.simutronics.net 4900. Copy everything after
key= to the clipboard, as it will be the login key you'll use
momentarily. It'll look like a long series of letters and numbers.

Now you will run your mud client of choice and telnet to gs3.simutronics.net
4900. When you connect, your screen reader won't say anything.
Now just paste the login key and hit Enter, then type the word
JAVA, all in caps, and press Enter, whereupon you should see
please wait for connection to game server. Now you're playing
the game using telnet.

If you log out and wait more than fifteen minutes or so, the login
key

Re: [Audyssey] Mission help core exiles.

2009-10-19 Thread dark
Yes. one symple way to cut this down is buy a better scan unit. There are
those that show more ships, and those that show ships of a certain
type, Ie, threats or commercial.

Also remember though, you can have two scanners at once, so long as
they have diffferent numbers. I have a sensor sweet 1 and a sensor sweet two
in two of my system slots which together give a total of 7 ships per pop.

I might have to forgo one if I buy a targiting module, but for the
moment this works extremely well indeed and finds mission targits quickly.

I also have a litle Hal trick to cut scan times for missions which may or
may not work with other screen readers. I use Hal's in built find text
function to look for the name of my targit ship. Then I can just alternate
tabbing to the repeat scan area button and pressing F3 and enter to look
up the ship name. This can scan pretty quickly and stop things from being
quite as much a pain.

[Audyssey] mota question and intoomed question

2009-10-19 Thread Chastity MORSE
Okay, first, what's this mota game that everyone's talking about? What's its
web address?

Secon, in the entoomed game I did finally figure out how to buy stuff from
the stores, but I can't seem to use the stuff I bought. I bought a copper
helmet and breastplate and they're in my inventory, but when I try to equip
them to use them; it says I have nothing to put there, like on my head or
torso.
Is this a bug or is there something else I'm supposed to do to use my bought
items?
Thanks, Chastity

Hello gamers,
USA Games Interactive would like to announce the immediate release of
Mysteries of the Ancients Beta 8. This all new release contains various
miner bug fixes and updates to the game. Such bug fixes include: being
able to jump without getting stuck afterwards, the bug with burning
torches and heavy breathing in the main menu should now be corrected,
fixed a couple miner bugs with the save and load game functions, and so
on. As of this release amazon warriors now carry bow and arrows, and the
centaurs will throw fireballs at you. In addition this release has a new
view command that will simply speak everything around you without
requiring you to navigate a menu. As always please remember to uninstall
Beta 7 before installing Beta 8. To download the game visit our web site at

and install it.

Happy gaming!

Re: [Audyssey] mota question and intoomed question

2009-10-19 Thread Bryan Peterson
Hey there. MOTA is actually an acronym that stands for Mysteries of the
ANcients. Actually the full title of the game is Tomb Hunter I: Mysteries of
the Ancients. It's the upcoming title from USA Games Interactive. You can
download a Beta version for play from www.usagamesinteractive.com. As for
your Entombed question, you want to make sure your characters are of a class
that can use the type of armor you bought. Copper I think is only usable by
fighters, so if you don't have a fighter in your party you wouldn't be able
to use the stuff.

Mal's aren't for you to buy things, but to sell them!

Check the forum's help and guides section (a good idea all around), for how
to go about it.

It's not something I think I'll be doing sinse you need negotiation skill
pluss various production skills if your going to build your own store to
place in a mal (though you can always buy one from the player market),
but it does look an interesting way of making cash none the less.

I'll experiment wih this later, as I'm surprised the original method I
plsted may not work, but I found alternative instructions from about a
month ago on a Gemstone IV forum regarding playing with a non-supported
Simutronics client. They are similar to what I originally posted, just
looking for a different file with a .sal extension. I've rewritten the
instructions in places for conciseness and clarification.

 1. Log in to your Simutronics account at the GS website and go to the Go
 Play! page.
 2. Select the character with which you wish to play. Don't log in to the
 game yet.
 3. Select either the Wizard or Stormfront as your client.
 4. Click the Go Play! button. When you do this, your web browser should
hopefully attempt to open a file ending in .sal.

 Simu server;
it will seem as if there is no response.
 10. Now type into your MUD client the following (and then hit enter):
 /FE:JAVA

That should connect you to the game. Good luck!

[Audyssey] Best MOTA games yet...

2009-10-19 Thread Bryan Peterson
Well, I've managed to beat MOTA on the easy difficulty without taking a single
hit from Kerberos. Of course I did sort of station myself right at the room's
entrance so I could back away after hitting him a few times and waiting till my
strength returned. But I managed to hold on to all but a few rounds from most
of my guns and I had three potionns to spare. So if the full game had been
available I'd have been in decent shape to take on the next level. And as an
added bonus I've beaten the level three times on Intermediate, even managing to
kill Kerberos the last time. I think I'm definitely ready to record my own MOTA
review. Of course if I did it now it wouldn't be in stereo since I'm still
having trouble with that.
