hi james.
I know there is a way but I have never owned or handled a console
exclusively, the only thing I have handled myself was parts of aibs odyssey

of players offline.
the other was playing the lego starwars games with my cousin.
However I really think highly of those that can remember the layouts of just
about everything, and can play online and offline games like
mk9 down to the last punch I myself am not a natural.
sure give me a blindy game with a targeting beep but all punches sound
almost the same, I have never really been much of a research kind of guy
though that may change.
I have never been more than an average gamer playing mostly for story and if
I get a serious game like smuglers I have never played to win sertainly I
have never at all completed a game, I get lost in it sure but eventually
things change and I move to something else.
This may change in the colder months especially in the periods after the
various opperations needed to be done on things where if I am able speaking
will not be an option so gaming definately.

What interests me are the class of gamers.
The lowest of the low are not on here as such but I know of a few.
some of them blind others not.
in the scheme of things they are the poor retarded bunch that have no
idea and or just getting started.
I have a few, one of them was not blind and had potential but never got
further than last crusade and decent into madness and not for long.
To others that never heard of audiogames and only did the simple board
games and then not that much.
Then the standard gamer, most of us are in this catogry.
To the advanced strat gamer, I am not really one of those I sertainly
couldn't plan for ages what I will do, I play games for the story and
to muck round but I honestly don't care to solve without cheating I
don't want to use my brain for anything serious unless its real easy or
I can grind away.
Then there is the crazy gamer class the hard core type.
They play games the rest of us me included wouldn't dream of playing.
Games that are inaccessable and there for crappy and useless to most of
us not that we whoud know what they all mean.
this includes some iphone games, consoles yeah consoles in general.
I just don't know how they actually do it, and play reasonably ok and
also online no speech.
These same people play in multipul languages and really show the blind
community up, they are the super blind.
Not sure how many exactly are round but probably more than you think.

Re: [Audyssey] Storm8 games information

2013-03-19 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, I recommend shooting up to level 7 and then start earning income.
The problem is that it's way too easy to race through the first 20
levels, but if you don't get a good income base going, you will suffer
hard at later levels. So, you can decide, be patient and bored now at
lower levels, or take the quick path like Anakin Skywalker did and then
turn to the dark side, smile.

Re: [Audyssey] Storm8 games information

2013-03-19 Thread dark

Hi Raul.

that is actually what I've done, I'm level 7 now and am just buying more
slaves. it actually suits me since I'm very busy with a production this week
and don't have massive amounts of time to go and play games, though it would
be nice to have some more clan members, (another reason I'd rather like a
storm8 id), indeed I might go and introduce myself on the storm8 forum to
see if anyone would like to add me to their clan.

fights wise, i've put two thirds of my skill points into defense, and that
does seem to have paid off since I've only been attacked and defeated once,
but have been attacked and won about five times, indeed it seems defense is
more important than attack or at least that is the way it is looking thus
far.

Btw, I've written a description for vampires live on audiogames.net and have
added links to your podcasts there should anyone want to download them. i'll
also stick them on the entry for zombies live when i get around to writing a
description for that.

All the best,

dark.

Re: [Audyssey] making an alias in Altaer Aeon

2013-03-19 Thread Dennis Towne
Keith,

Aliases work on a line by line basis, and you generally don't enter
them all at once. The commands I'd use are:

alias =hsc
harvest spell corpse
/done

The first command starts creating the alias. The second command goes
into the alias. The third completes the alias.

You can put as many commands in an alias as you want, but I hardly
ever have more then three or four commands in mine.

Hi james.

Nope, the storm8 games are only playable on Ios and android systems, however
there are lots of games of a similar sort for windows, go and check the
games to play online page on www.whitestic.co.ukk for a list.

In many ways the storm8 games remind me of things like dragon tavern and
majesty heroes of ardania, though the use of the Ios notification system and
their inclusion of some sound effects is rather unique.

Hi Ian,

I don't believe you can begin earning income until you reach rank 7 or
so. As a result you need to gain flesh, blood, whatever through
missions etc until you can begin earning income.

As far as weather or not the Storm8 games are good I think that is a
matter of personal preference. Like Dark mentioned there isn't enough
text to suit me. If I select a mission to carry out I expect a
background story and a description of the battle at minimum. In the
Storm8 games all we get is a little scene, some sounds, and its over.
No background story, no description of the battle, nothing to draw me
into the mission/quest. I find missions about as boring as watching
paint dry. I think if Storm8 would spend more time on writing text
descriptions for stuff like a text adventure it would go a long way to
improving the games.

Cheers!

Hi Dark,

That's understandable. I would probably not visit Audiogames.net as
often if Audyssey had a forum since there wouldn't be a need to check
both forums as often.

With the list setup it is much easier than a forum anyway because
messages get delivered directly to your e-mail inbox. Every time you
check your mail the messages from the list are in your mail inbox
rather than having to go to a forum, log in, and locate the new posts.

Re: [Audyssey] New Playable Game for iPhone

2013-03-19 Thread Pitermach
can't figure it out. I open it, but I don't see any buttons. I just get
a weird looping sound and nothing else.

On 2013-03-19 03:03, Ken The PionEar wrote:

This is not for the faint of heart, so if you're not a real hard-core game
hunter it might not be for you.
It's a game called Sphere, by Jerik. It's a bit tricky getting it to start,
because you can't use Voiceover at all. However, if you do get it going you'll
know it because you'll hear the level generation sound.
the game has only two buttons: start and create. The create button is locked
until you complete the sixth level, so if you press it you'll get a click and
that's all. However, if start is the one you press, the music will change and
the level up sound will play.
The game is, visually, in landscape mode. However, as far as audio goes it's
easiest just to play in portrait mode--otherwise you'll find that down is left
and up is right.
Even if you won't want to try completing levels, you can do things with the
sphere. try bouncing it off the walls without hearing the spark sound. Hold it
still for ten seconds and hear it explode. Stretch it, spin it, slam it around.
It's a stress ball! Sighted players get the added benefit of watching it all,
including the sphere being riddled with cracks the closer it is to exploding,
but that's not necessary.
The real challenge and fun is the puzzle itself. the first level or two are so
easy that, as you bounce around, you'll probably complete them by mistake. You
might even complete the third level on accident, but after that you'll really
have to put on your thinking caps.
The idea of the game is that there is a sequence of walls you have to touch
with the ball, and in the right order, kind of like a code buster game. You can
touch the sphere and drag it around, but that takes time. It's a lot easier to
touch outside of the sphere and push it away. You'll really have to be careful
though, because it can go quite fast. Touching the sphere, by the way, sounds
quite different from touching anywhere else in the field. The field sound stays
constant, while the sphere sound changes for every level or so.
You won't know, unless your ears are better than mine, if you've touched the
right wall. You will know if you got the first one or more right though,
because when you touch a wrong one after getting some right, you'll hear a
buzzing sound and have to start from scratch. Once you complete the level,
you'll be taken to a much harder one. The first level only has four or five
walls to hit, but the number increases rapidly.
A hypothetical example: You start on level 1. You hit the bottom, and nothing
happens. You hit the side, and nothing happens. You hit the top, and you hear
the spark-like buzz. Wrong move. Wanting to see if hitting the bottom was
needed, you hit the side, then the top. you get the buzz, so you know that the
right side is the first wall of the sequence. Of course, you can hit fifty
walls before that, and it won't count against you. The sequence is only
recorded once you hit the first correct wall.
Walls can be hit more than once. I'm on level 4, and it goes something like:
top, left, bottom, left...
I haven't completed it yet, but you get the picture I hope.
Jerik has a facebook page. Tonight I'm going to write on his wall and tell him
how much I love this game, and ask him to improve it some. I'll ask that the
ball bouncing sounds never climb the scale unless it's part of a sequence--or
maybe that we get completely different sounds. I'll ask for accessible buttons
at the beginning, or perhaps audio cues all the way through. Who knows how far
the dev will go toward making it more accessible for us, but even if not at
all, it's quite playable.
So you think games like Robo-e are hard? Well, they are--but this is even
harder... way harder... but quite fun, even just to mess around with. It's free
for now, so hit the app store and pick it up before the price returns to normal.

Re: [Audyssey] Swing Tennis

2013-03-19 Thread Ken The PionEar
First of all, if you're seeing unlabeled buttons, you're in the tutorial.
Only one of those buttons actually works, the rest are reported as dimmed.
What I had to do was just exit VO and click around a bit, turn it back on,
click around... you get the idea. It took me about three minutes to get out
of the tutorial screen. After that everything's accessible.

Once you'
re past the tutorial, you'll see new buttons. There is single player,
multiplayer, game center, and player 1. All these are self-explanatory
except the player 1 button, which gives you your stats.
once you click single player, you have three dificulty levels. Easy, which
is on the left in the middle of the screen, medium, which is above it and to
the right, and hard, which is all the way to the right and on the same level
as the easy button. You can also swipe through the choices, but once you get
a feel for where the buttons are, you can do this without Voiceover.
After selecting the difficulty, it's time to pick your opponent. There are
three per level, and the number of stars, (not the white stars,) shows how
hard each is to beat. Finally there is a close button that takes you back a
screen.
Now you're ready to play. Turn off VO and wait for your opponent to swing.
Once you hear the sound of the ball bouncing, it's time to swing back. you
have to touch the screen anywhere but the corners. On the screen is a grid,
and I think it lets you decide where to send the ball when you swing.
Swinging without touching the screen doesn't do anything.
In the lower left corner is a pause button. You can press this any time the
computer is not waiting for you to swing or serve, and see how many
power-ups you have, what your score is, and, if in multiplayer mode, chat
with your opponent.

You won't see buttons. I thought i clarified that in the last message.
Sorry. You have to turn Voiceover off as soon as the game starts and poke
around. Since the create button is locked, start is the only button that
does anything, and you'll have to learn its location. So if you hit a button
and hear a click, but no other sound, it's not the start button.

This is not for the faint of heart, so if you're not a real hard-core

It's a game called Sphere, by Jerik. It's a bit tricky getting it to
start, because you can't use Voiceover at all. However, if you do get it
going you'll know it because you'll hear the level generation sound.
the game has only two buttons: start and create. The create button is
locked until you complete the sixth level, so if you press it you'll get
a click and that's all. However, if start is the one you press, the music
will change and the level up sound will play.
The game is, visually, in landscape mode. However, as far as audio goes
it's easiest just to play in portrait mode--otherwise you'll find that
down is left and up is right.
Even if you won't want to try completing levels, you can do things with
the sphere. try bouncing it off the walls without hearing the spark
sound. Hold it still for ten seconds and hear it explode. Stretch it,
spin it, slam it around. It's a stress ball! Sighted players get the
added benefit of watching it all, including the sphere being riddled with
cracks the closer it is to exploding, but that's not necessary.
The real challenge and fun is the puzzle itself. the first level or two
are so easy that, as you bounce around, you'll probably complete them by
mistake. You might even complete the third level on accident, but after
that you'll really have to put on your thinking caps.
The idea of the game is that there is a sequence of walls you have to
touch with the ball, and in the right order, kind of like a code buster
game. You can touch the sphere and drag it around, but that takes time.
It's a lot easier to touch outside of the sphere and push it away. You'll
really have to be careful though, because it can go quite fast. Touching
the sphere, by the way, sounds quite different from touching anywhere
else in the field. The field sound stays constant, while the sphere sound
changes for every level or so.
You won't know, unless your ears are better than mine, if you've touched
the right wall. You will know if you got the first one or more right
though, because when you touch a wrong one after getting some right,
you'll hear a buzzing sound and have to start from scratch. Once you
complete the level, you'll be taken to a much harder one. The first level
only has four or five walls to hit, but the number increases rapidly.
A hypothetical example: You start on level 1. You hit the bottom, and
nothing happens. You hit the side, and nothing happens. You hit the top,
and you hear the spark-like buzz. Wrong move. Wanting to see if hitting
the bottom was needed, you hit the side, then the top. you get the buzz,
so you know that the right side is the first wall of the sequence. Of
course, you can hit fifty walls before that, and it won't count against
you. The sequence is only recorded once you hit the first correct wall.
Walls can be hit more than once. I'm on level 4, and it goes something
like: top, left, bottom, left...

I haven't completed it yet, but you get the picture I hope.
Jerik has a facebook page. Tonight I'm going to write on his wall and

Re: [Audyssey] Storm8 games information

2013-03-19 Thread dark

Hi tom.

that is what I am finding with the game, however I do think part of the
problem here is a purely access one. Each mission does come with a picture,
which i'm guessing for people who can see them are appealing enough to make
ganing ranks in new missions and completing missions worthwile. Obviously
for vi players this is not the case and I do confess the simple press button
success sort of fights and missions the games have are for me a major turn
off since as you said, i'd like some propper text, especially about
something as potentially interesting as my vampire stalking a human or
subduing local gangsters.

I have contacted storm8 about the inaccessibility of the settings tab, and
if they get back to me on that front I might suggest that they include
textual descriptions for the missions, though I do not know if they will go
for that option, since for at least some sighted gamers text equals dull,
thus a text heavy game is not an interesting one in their thinking, though
of course others such as makers of gamebooks etc have a different outlook,
it'll just be a question of which direction storm8 thinks since they might
not actually considdered adding story text to the missions at all, though i
don't hold out too much hope on this one.

In general at the moment my thinking over the storm8 games is that they are
okay, and I will try them, but I doubt they will hold my interest for too
long simply because of my liking for exploration and atmosphere even over
and above stat heavy play.

Re: [Audyssey] Moderator Important Message for the List

2013-03-19 Thread dark

Hi tom.

well in fairness all you need to actually do to get the new posts on a forum
is click the new posts link. Some forums I admit can be a pest to
navigate, but punbb, and especially the customized version of punbb that
audiogames.net uses tends to be fine.

while I agree mailing list delivery is convenient, for me it also has a
drawback. i'll hapily sign up to many forums even if temporarily, or even if
i just want to ask a question. if I start playing a game, i'll sign up to
the forum just to ask about that specific game, indeed I might well sign up
to the storm8 forumswhile I test the games. Same goes for forums for other
things, for instance I signed up to a doctor who forum when i was writing
Dr. who episode reviews. Even if I don't post much, it doesn't matter, and
there is no practical limit on how many forums I sign up for.

Mailing lists on the other hand I am very careful about, and other than
signing up for news letters or the like. won't join discussion lists, since
I don't want that volume of mail through my inbox, I have more than enough
already.

so there are pros and cons to both systems really and i can quite understand
why people prefer one or the other.

all the best,

dark.

For anyone playing these, do you know how to access the settings in any game
other than Kingdoms, if it's possible at all? I looked up how to set a

I got my ID set up in Kingdoms, if anyone wants to add me it's

link them up as well so I don't have to spread my codes around everywhere,
would make life a lot simpler.

Re: [Audyssey] Storm8 games information

2013-03-19 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

That may be. I know a lot of sighted gamers, and even some V.I.
gamers, view text based games as boring or less appealing than having
some graphical representation of the events such as a quick cutscene
that conveys the salient points.

However, like you I enjoy games with a good solid back story, is full
of exploration, and am not so much a fan of stat heavy games. I think
the Storm8 games lack the back story and exploration, and is geared
more for people who like dealing with various stats and who like
figuring out how to earn the most income while maintaining the best
weapons etc. So they are appealing in principle, but fall short of
what I would consider personally addictive.

If I were considering writing a game like Vampires I would probably
write a back story for the game, and have it full of various missions
or quests to embark on with textual descriptions of everything more
like a Gamebook. Imagine the following story..

The city lies silent as you stand in the shadows near the abandoned
warehouse. Twilight has fallen over the city, and the only light
remaining is that cast by the various street lamps placed at regular
intervals along the avenue. At this hour nobody is out accept the
occasional junky trying to score a hit, or the prostitutes selling
their bodies to any John willing to pay their fees. More often this
neighborhood is home to some of the city's worst gang bangers and
hoods. Street punks with a gun and a rap sheet a mile long. However,
none of them are as nearly as fearsome a hunter as you.
You are one of the newly undead. A creature of the night.. A creature
that feeds off the blood of the living, and are filled with an
insatiable hunger to kill and feed. As nobody much cares about the
city's prostitutes, junkies, and gang bangers it makes this part of
town the perfect place to begin hunting for prey.

That's only a couple of paragraphs of text, but that really sets up
the mood for a quest where a vampire, or a zombie I suppose, can hunt
for human prey. It is far more interesting than a few sounds of people
screaming and getting attacked by our undead character. That text
really sets the mood, and I could expand that quest to hunt a few
gangsters and what not in that section of town.

The more I think about the idea the more I like the idea of writing
such a game. I've been thinking of writing RPGs for a while now, but I
haven't considered how fun it would be to write a text based roll
playing game where I am a vampire, zombie, or werewolf instead of
being the hero hunting them. I guess that comes from the fact most
stories, and most games for that matter, are always taken from the
hero's point of view rather than the villains. So in that light
writing some vampire or zombie text game would rock.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Storm8 games information

2013-03-19 Thread Shadow Dragon

That was actually pretty well written. Nice job.

Personally I actually don't mind just the little bit of backstory the games
give you in the tutorials, but I would definitely prefer the missions to
have more text to them, and the story you just came up with would be much
cooler. It would also be cool if the missions were completable in some way
rather than repeatable, or at least some mixture of the two. Some of the
missions don't make sense, like the quest in Kingdoms where you have to Save
the Prince from the Goblins. And you can do that quest as many times as you
want. That is one unfortunate prince, or your character is one terrible
hero. haha.

I don't mind stat heavy game sos much because I have a bit of an overactive
imagination, so I can conceptualize a lot of things in terms of my
characters, hence why I still play Dragon Tavern for it's unique classes.
But they tend not to last for too long as in any game, I prefer an
overarching storyline that can be completed and a game that has an ending,
or multiple endings.

reinvent the wheel?

Besides that not everyone, myself included, necessarily wants to read
a bunch of off topic posts. Any more when I read the Audiogames.net
forum I go directly to the room or rooms such as General so I don't
have to read all the off topic posts about weather or not braille is
necessary any more, or if someone can help someone else install
Windows 8, etc. I realize those topics are important to someone,
otherwise they wouldn't exist, but I don't have the time to read every
off topic post that gets posted to the forum. Sometimes I do read and
respond to those threads, but only if I am board and have nothing else
to do at that moment. Otherwise I go for just the rundown on what's
new or read about a game I am interested in and skip the rest.

Cheers!

I aadmit I'm a little biased on this, what with being admin of the
audiogames.net forum etc, but what would be the point? People are quite free

to use the offtopic room of audiogames.
