well it depends what code ms is going to release.
Speaking of which they are already writing a service pack so who knows, maybe
that will fix stuff.
Almost on the day they released vista ms decides to do another pack for release
at the end of the year.
I suspect that when vista came out it was not fully finnished.
Rather than having setbacks to the date ms just released the buggy vista and
started a service pack.
Who knows.

 Hi Damien,
On the system I installed Vista to there is no way to record from the
wave out mix as before. The only way I can see that one could record
game reviews or other content like that is via a microphone, or use XP
on a separate computer to do it.
Now, I am not sure weather this is do the the fact Vista's drivers are
all very experimental and not as full featured as we would all hope, or
this feature is something that is absolutely dropped.
What I can say is midi support for musicians etc is gone as well, and
since I am one myself I am pretty ticked about that. I am hoping this is
added in the next patches, updates, and or service packs.

[Audyssey] One Year Ago

2007-02-28 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi,

A year ago today Marcie did not answer her morning phone call from me. Like so
many times in the past I thought that it was a low blood sugar, so I ran across
the hall to give her an injection of Glucogon. This time however it was not
her blood sugar. She had passed away sometime during the night. So maybe in
memory of Marcie, today might be a good day to play a bit of Pong, Snakes and
Ladders, Simon or a round or two on the M L B Memorial golf course.

Thank you.

Re: [Audyssey] Building gaming pcs

2007-02-28 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Thomas,

The thing is, if I were to try to build a computer, for one thing it would
never ever get all put together. And if somehow it did, I'm sure that it would
go up in smoke the first time that I plugged it in. And if the smoke thing
didn't happen I am sure that it would never run properly. Not to mention that
I do not know enough about parts to order ones that would be compatible and
function well together. So I must be resigned to buying commercially built
machines such as from Dell. But hey as I said, I have been nothing but happy
with the two that I have bought from them so far.

BFN

Computers run on smoke. Yep, that's why that if you see all of the smoke coming
out of your computer it ain't gonna run no more.

Re: [Audyssey] New programming language. sounds promising.

2007-02-28 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Thomas,

I have never created a dll file. Honestly I don't know how to. But so what I
do is, I have a starter.frm that contains all of the routines that I use in my
games and when I go to start work on a new game I just make a copy of the
starter.frm with the name of the new game. I can then modify or delete
routines as needed for that new game and if there are routines that I have used
in other games that are not in the starter.frm I just copy that code from the
old game into the new one. I know that method is not as sophisticated as
creating a dll, but hey it works for me.

Hi Josh,
Yeah, if you want XP you'll have to do that, but keep in mind you will
have to locate drivers for the new hardware for XP which could be an
issue if the hardware was designed primarily for Vista and beyond.
Not saying that will happen, but could happen.

Re: [Audyssey] Vista Game Compatibility Chart

2007-02-28 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Jim,
Yeah, I used winkit, and that wasn't the problem I encountered here.
I've been a user of your games for a number of years, and so I know how
to install your games. Smile
The problem here I believe is do to Vista's new security. Windows Vista
is all about read, write, and execute management. When it comes to
system folders like program files, Windows, Users, etc one can not just
simply self-extract a bunch a files in to a directory. This is to
increase safety from viruses, but it also prevents small time devs like
yourself from just dumping a program in the program files directory and
forgetting about it.
I can offer two solutions for this issue. One you can have
self-extractor unpack the files locally to the users home directory, or
two I can write you a setup installer for the games which is operating
system independant from 98 to Vista.
In the long run you might be best served by the second option eventually.
Cheers.

the kitchensinc folder where they would have been trying to be unzipped to.

Re: [Audyssey] Sryth items: what to sell, keep, or hold?

2007-02-28 Thread Mongwen
Hi, AC. You should have at least one dwelling by now where you can drop
items. My basic rule of thumb is to keep magical items and sell
weapons/armor otherwise. Hang onto that bow. I generally wear the best I
have and sell the rest.
When it's unclear which is best, for example, a superior leather helm vs. a
well-crafted hide helm, I compare their stats (to see which has a higher
stamina bonus and sell the other one. If the stamina bonuses are the same,
I wear the lighter one.

If you haven't been to Graldoc yet, go there and do those adventures.
They'll open up the market for you, and you'll get better prices. If you
haven't at least bought a dwelling in Durnsig, do so. I don't carry
anything I can drop if I don't need it right then. That leaves more room to
pick up items you can later sell.

The durnsig dwelling supposedly has a 24-item limit, but it's not enforced.
If you've done Stoneback Hill, you'll also get a dwelling in Trithik, which
has a 50-item limit (again unenforced).

Hi list,
It's AC. I am just wondering if you guys could give me guidance on which,
if it all any, items I should sell, Keep, or just hold on to them just in
case. My encumbrance is getting close to its limit. I will place the list
of items below. You can just place a s for items that I should sell, a
K next to the ones I should keep, and a h next to the ones that I
should hold on to and may be able to use later but don't have a current
purpose in the game. I currently have 4,200 gold tokens stored away. I
want that hale blade! smile
I also have placed my adventure log with the completed task. Can you give
me guidance as to what I might want to tackle next at my current level?
I have tried the Giants part 1 adventure two or three times and didn't do
too well. smile I also tried the pirate adventure and got choked out.
hahaha!
Thanks,
You guys are very cool and helpful.

[Audyssey] Sapi problems

2007-02-28 Thread Bryan Peterson
Hi all,
I know this is off topic but it does affect my gaming, so I'm posting it
here. I recently began experiencing a problem with Sapi 5. Can't say about Sapi
4 but Sapi 5 doesn't seem to want to run anymore. I can't use it with JAWS, and
more importantly I can't play many of my favorite Kitchens Inc games. I've
tried all the usual stuff, uninstalling and reinstalling the software and the
voices, but it's as though Windows isn't recognizing that it's installed, even
though the program says it was installed successfully. I'm wondering if this is
a problem that can be fixed with relative ease or if I'll have to reformat the
hard drive on my Laptop again. I doesn't say that any files are missing, but
I'm wondering if that's the case, and if so where I might go to look. Any help
would be appreciated. Since I might be using Sapi speach in some games I create
I kinda need to get this sorted out.

Hi Bryan,

You should check in the control panel, go to speech then choose the
TextToSpeech. This will let you set the default SAPI voice from those
installed and will also allow you to preview the voices. Pick one that works
and see if it fixes the problem. I think most programmes that work with SAPI
probably just use the default.

Re: [Audyssey] Vista Jaws

2007-02-28 Thread Thomas Ward
Hello Michael,
If you get the new Jaws 8.0.11 patch Jaws 8.0 will operate fine with Vista.
However, note, you must absolutely have 8.0.11 and later to get access
to Vista.
So if you went out and got Vista tomorrow and downloaded Jaws 8.0.11 put
it on a cd, and installed it you would be good to go.
I recommend getting the 8.0.11 full download rather than the patch for
Vista.
Cheers.

Hi Bryan,
that is false. Jaws 8.0.11 released very recently supports Vista.
Be sure to download the version that specifically says it is compatible
with 2003 and Vista.
The first release of 8.0 will not work with Vista, but 8.0.11 will. For
the record 8.0.11 is a a free upgrade for Jaws 8.0 users.
Cheers.

Hello Daneon, I have decided to check out your quickend program, that allows
you to shut down with hotkeys and restarts with a hotkey, however, if I push
the hot key, my laptop doesnot shut down nor restart. Any ideas on why the
hot keys aren't working?

the bsc sound files can be cracked. i got sent a game which i was meant to
be hosting with lots of those files in it. i obviously said, no, way! i am
not, under any circumstances, hosting that unless you change those sounds,
because i'm not sure that justin would approve of that.

i myself have also witnessed someone decompiling the pipe2 sounds with a
program made for unpacking game files and scanning an encrypted zip file
 for
 sounds.

 damien

 Hi Ken,
That is a perfect example of what does and does not work for encryption.
BSC's games like Troopenum seam to be using an encrypted file packing
utility like Molebox. I don't know of anyone who cracked in to it which
 is good.
GMA Games sound encryption isn't all that advanced. In fact I am not
sure they are encrypted. They appear to be some raw sound source which
gets loaded in to the SOD engine and reconstructed at runtime.
All you are doing with Soundforge or Goldwave is reconstructing the
 sounds from that raw state.
A C++ programmer does have the advantage of packing all sounds in to a
dll, but there are tools out there that can pick icons and sounds out of
 compiled dlls.
I have heard one of the ways to secure sounds is to include them
directly in to your exe file, and then use a binary encryption tool to
scramble the exe file so it can not be decompiled and other hacking
tools can not steel the sounds or images from it. Down side as with
Molebox you have a file several hundred megs large or at least 20 or 30
MB, or whatever size it ends up being.

Hi Michael,
I haven't tested wireless stuff under Vista yet, but I don't see
anyreason why not. I imagine how far you go depends on driver support.
