Re: [Audyssey] Mach 1

2007-11-14 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Mark,

I might some day write a car driving or racing game to be part of the WinKit,
but it would be different than Mach 1. Mach 1 uses TegoSoft rather than
DirectX and of course recorded speech rather than the text to speech engine, so
it would probably be easier to write it from scratch rather than trying to
convert it all over.

Right now I am working on Homer on a Harley. It will be my first game that
uses DirectX keyboard input rather than the VB6 keyboard input. This means
that it can except more than one key press at a time and Homer on a Harley
takes more than one key at a time to drive. But so after that I hope to learn
to program for a joystick or steering wheel. So if I am able to do that, we
will have to see what kind of driving game I can come up with.

BFN

 Jim

The highways will be safer now that the price of gasoline is so high. Nobody
can afford to drink AND drive.

 HI all

As many of you have read in previous issues of the magazine I have
introduced the Chatting with Creators segment.
Okay well this time I'm planning to talk with Mathew who has created
 the
game some of us play Sryth.
What I'm wanting is to have folks email me any questions or comments
 about
the game that I can then put into those I have and send it off to him to
appear in the next issue! The questions can be of a basic nature or as
spacific as you'd like. He's already agreed to help out here so this is
your chance to ask whatever has been on your mind. I'd like to make it

Hi.

You can check the Sryth wiki on http://sryth.pbwiki.com/

For an adventure list, but to be honest your best off just wandering around
and seeing what you can find.

I was in a similar position myself, and there's loads! of new stuff to do.

Hth.

Re: [Audyssey] question about maps in sound rts

2007-11-14 Thread SoundMUD
This problem is only in the English version that uses a different
translation of the game. The flying machine is not ready anyway.

By not ready, I mean that the flying machine is not much different
from a dragon, while it would be more interesting to allow it to
transport troops.

2007/11/14, Dakotah Rickard [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
 I'm sorry, let me rephrase:
The unit name, when looking around with the tab key, when observing a
flying machine, is New login. It is just unusual and presents no
 real problems.

By not ready do you mean that it still has bugs?

About giving players different resources, this is yet undocumented and

starting_units and starting_resources, there would be 2 lines, one for
each player:
player 10 10 b1 townhall farm peasant 2 footman archer c1 farm
player 10 10 c8 townhall farm peasant 2 footman archer b8 farm
The first line means: add a player with 10 gold, 10 wood, a town

I also don't think they keep shows from so far back, most of them are dead.
Another stupid thing which I don't like about the Bavisoft games is that
there are no demos. Have still got no response from Mithrill games about the
Haunted Factory problem, something suggests to me, also because there site
hasn't been updated in a while I hope they just also haven't abandoned the
game, luckily it's a download, so not too bad, but I wrote last week

Subject: [Audyssey] Is It Worth Promoting Bavisoft on My Next Podcast?

 Hi,
I'm getting set to start recording content for episode 6 of my
podcast. One idea I had was to redo my review of Grizzly Gulch
Western Extravaganza from Bavisoft. Since my original review was in
mono, I thought I'd record the new one in stereo, and try to expand
on it a bit. However, I'm starting to wonder if it's a good idea,
especially after what I heard from a friend. He recently ordered the
game, but it's been a month now, and he still hasn't received it. I'm
told he tried emailing Bavisoft, and kept getting messages about
their box being full. When I suggested contacting a dealer to see if
he could get the game that way, he said he did, and was told they
were having problems getting hold of Bavisoft. As a result, they
weren't carrying their products anymore. So, in your opinion, is it
worth re-recording a review for a game from a company that is hard to

Thanks.

Hi Claudio,
Here's the link for Kelly and Brian Hartgen's reviews of Grizzly Gulch, plus
things you can listen to.
http://www.bavisoft.com/download.htm
Please remember though that, I'm not trying to be a killjoy or anything,
but I think it would be wise for you to wait to hear if other people get
what they order before you decide to order yourself. This is quite sad,
because wasn't Grizzly Gulch the very first audio game around? I also think
the guy from Bavisoft was on the list. Actually wonder why he unsubscribed,
given that he makes games, I really appreciate Thomas, Phil, and many other
developers really keeping in touch with us like they do, they do and
chatting about games, it shows passion and commitment and seriousness to
develop games. I remember that even when Bavisoft was more active, often
months and months would go by before even the news section changed!

I don't know how others feel about this suggestion, but I think it may

manageable and maybe even beneficial to game play.
What about selling kepbekk leaves or kepbekk elixirs for either gold
 and/or adventure tokens?
I know some may say this could take away from the challenge, but with
some of the latest adventures, I don't really think so. Besides, maybe
Mathew could put a limit on the amount of kepbekk leaves and/or elixirs
 you can buy.
So what do you guys think?
And most importantly, what does Mathew think? smile

I disagree. It's precisely because they're so scarce that they should be
sold in some shop or other. Perhaps the leaves should be something like
 50
gold and the elixirs 500 gold, max. One of my characters has none and
 regrets it
all the time. They are currently only available in PG scenarios or
adventures if you're lucky, and then the chances are fair that you'll
 need
 them very soon.
The only ones who can heal without being able to rest somewhere, eat a
 leaf,
or drink an elixir are mages *if* they have decent restoration, but that
costs them a round if they're forced to do it in combat. They can
 sometimes
do it in between combats. I'm rambling now, so I'll shut up, but I say
 they
 need to be sold.

 Hi,
I really don't like the sound of those suggestions. It as been my
experience kepbekk leaves and elixirs are hard enough to get as it is. I
wouldn't sell them in any case. Once I find them I keep them, and if you
know of a large stash of them let me know and Kira is heading there to

[Audyssey] Sryth suggestion Fw: chatting with creators -Wanting help

2007-11-14 Thread acarthon
Hi Bryan, Betty, and list,
Sorry Brian and others for not being as clear as I could have, but I did
mean buying from a shop or dealer and not each other. I just assumed that

interaction in the game of Sryth other than the occasional tournament.
However, this made me think of another suggestion. I know that we have
spoken about it before. What about a special attack of our own during

I am talking about using a weapon and also being able to hit our opponent
just like many of the enemies in Sryth do against us. I have seen
something similar to this when wielding the Blade of the Fox even
though it's not quite the same thing.
your Blade of the Fox takes on a life of its own and your enemy loses
9 or something like that.
It doesn't happen very often.
Do you all think it would be possible to do this with some of the other
weapons?
I don't know how much trouble it would be to implement something like
this, but I do think it would be pretty cool.
Thank you all for reading and sharing your opinion on this.
After all, it's just a suggestion. smile

I disagree. It's precisely because they're so scarce that they should
be
sold in some shop or other. Perhaps the leaves should be something
like
 50
gold and the elixirs 500 gold, max. One of my characters has none and
 regrets it
all the time. They are currently only available in PG scenarios or
adventures if you're lucky, and then the chances are fair that you'll
need
 them very soon.
The only ones who can heal without being able to rest somewhere, eat a
 leaf,
or drink an elixir are mages *if* they have decent restoration, but
that
costs them a round if they're forced to do it in combat. They can
 sometimes
do it in between combats. I'm rambling now, so I'll shut up, but I say

 they
 need to be sold.

 Hi,
I really don't like the sound of those suggestions. It as been my
experience kepbekk leaves and elixirs are hard enough to get as it is.
I
wouldn't sell them in any case. Once I find them I keep them, and if
you
know of a large stash of them let me know and Kira is heading there to
raid the place with swords drawn.

Hi Brandon.

I can not give you an answer, but I recommend you to get one of your

I'm wandering how do you find a XBox 360 accessible. Which games for it do
you find accessible? The only game I know is Dead or alive 4.

Hi list, I just bought the new WWE raw game for XBox today and I'm a bit
 stuck.
If anyone on list has this game, can you please explain to me how to get
 to the new season mode?
The menus in this game seem to go from left to right instead of up and
 down like last year.
I'd love to play the all new season mode so if anyone can please explain
from start to finish how to get to season when you start the game, it
 would be most appreciated.

2007-11-14 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
I'm not convinced that they should be sold. Having said that of course I
haave had many times I wish I'd had one. But if they are implimented, they
should either be

1. hard or expensive to obtain based on a characters level.
2. If they are inexpensive then the SP restored should be minimal or a
character should only be allowed to purchase a certain number in say a 24
hour period.

Also those who can get it the Quickstone restores full SP I believe twice
a day.

2007-11-14 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
Hi AC

Many of the magic weapons or at least the ones I've used have this extra
attack. For example the Sapphire blade, and the Shimmering silver
longsword.
Additionally depending on what Item a char gets from the pumpkin patch in
Durnsig, some of the armour is great. I've got nimble leather boots, which
while not the best at improving sp compared to the nightsong boots found in
the proving grounds, they have the power of dodge. This means at times in
combat there will appear a message on the screen of You've dodged your
enemies attack So in that round regardless of my roll I don't get hit.
It's been handy at times let me say...

already some mounths ago and it's really great!
In this game, you controol an F1 team from your virtual office and then

It's completely accessible and really addictive!
You follow the practice, warmup and qualifications and obviously watch

well it'd be nice to actually have something to do with gold, right
 now
 it's fairly useless.

I wouldn't be as much a fan of paying for these in Ag tocans though,
 sinse
there is only a finite amount of tocans in the game, and other than by
donating money, there's no way to get more. this would mean a player who
used a lot of leaves and elixias would have to donate to buy more, which
 imho would be incredibly unfair.

What about selling kepbekk leaves or kepbekk elixirs for either gold

I know some may say this could take away from the challenge, but with
some of the latest adventures, I don't really think so. Besides, maybe
Mathew could put a limit on the amount of kepbekk leaves and/or elixirs
 you can buy.
So what do you guys think?

 Hi Bryan, Betty, and list,
Sorry Brian and others for not being as clear as I could have, but I did
mean buying from a shop or dealer and not each other. I just assumed that
most of the players would know that there isn't much player to player
interaction in the game of Sryth other than the occasional tournament.
However, this made me think of another suggestion. I know that we have
spoken about it before. What about a special attack of our own during
 combat.

2007-11-14 Thread Ryan Conroy
Hi,

The menus are fairly straight forward. Going up and down, the only time you'll
be faced with a left or right choice is when picking a wrestler, or in some
type of option menu. If you want, Email me off list, or post more questions
here and I'll do my best to answer them. I've beaten that game several times; I
just need to remember it. Go with Goldberg; he's the first wrestler on the
list. He's the best.

 Hi Gary,
Your message here was quite long so I will attempt to summarize it down
 to something manageable here.

 Quote
Well, as I had mentioned I could not hear the other voice output cause of
the music, but if it was telling
me lap count or my position as being in first or third.
 End quote

The second voice you heard was a Sapi 5 voice called Scansoft Tom. It
was reading out lap time, lap number, fuel, etc... However, before the
game goes to release I will have to lower the car volumes as well as
other things in order for the Sapi voices to be heard over the noise.
The Sapi volume was at max volume, and even with no music sometimes it
gets hard to hear over the other noises around you. So to solve that
those sounds will have to be dropped to a much lower volume to make sure
all voice announcements are clear to everyone.

 Quote
Audio check ups to let you know your gas, Engine temp, and Revs. Tires
 is
 a
judgment call so really no audio is needed.
 End quote

There are already hot keys in the game to gather this kind of
information. there are hot keys to check fuel status, rpms, speed, gear,
etc. That information is piped out to the user via Sapi.

 Quote
Drivers in the parade who may want the tires to heat up quickly will
 weave
 back and forth.
Hearing a car head of you weaving should be heard. This may sound like a
car is gong frm one speaker to the other.. Cars will being doing this on
the straight aways for a few seconds at a time. So you can imagine most
 of
 these moves
 are done.
 End quote

I understand your desire for realism here, but what you are suggesting
here is a nightmare to program. I am not saying it can't be done, but it
is way too much work than I want to put into 1.0. To have cars weaving
on the track would require some additional AI which would only apply to
 one single lap.
You see the way the audio processing works it bases the other cars
position based on distance and their relation to you in a 360 circle
with you being the center. In order to physically hear those cars
weaving they would actually have to be weaving which requires more than
a robot just driving the track and attempting to pass a car up ahead.
For 1.0 I am willing to give up some realism in order to just get the
game operational. I am months behind any operational beta let alone a
playable game. So I will log your comments and suggestions for future
consideration, but please understand some of what you suggest is just
isn't practicle considering this game has been on the blocks since 2001
or so and I want it done next year if possible.

Re: [Audyssey] WCW Mayhem for Playstation 1

2007-11-14 Thread Timberwolf
Hi Kelly,

I recommend you trying out Sanfransisco rush for the playstation 1. Yeah
sure, very underrated, but who cares? The menus are easy to navigate- and
selling my ps2, I can't quite remember what they looked like, but it went
something like this:
single race
you go down once
circuit
down again
practice
down
setup
down
records
down
back to single race

Then, you press the x button (the bottom most round one, on the bottom right
hand corner)well not quite, er, there are a series of four buttons, the
left most bottom one, they're round. I guess you know what I mean.
After that your at track selection- and so, your at track 1. Press x, as the
other tracks are even more inaccessible than the first (although the game as
a hole isn't that accessible, but it just sounds like your flying).
Now, you got your cars to choose here.

As for wcw, I'm not too sure. I didn't choose games for there style- I went
for accessibility, and that I got, quite a bit actually, in mortal kombat.
While it doesnt sound like its in stario, its stil was quite accessible, and
I got quite far having no site. (I came close to beating it, but the
inevitable playstation, or the early playstation flaws were to over heat,
and such was the case with mine). There are three mortal kombat games- or
more. I owned mortal kombat, mortal kombat 2, 3, trilligy. So four. Trilligy
was one of my favorite, closely followed by mk 4 for the nintendo 64. Also,
killer instinct gold for the nintendo 64, I found, to be a very fun game.
You see, Kelly, when you select a character in mortal kombat, it speaks the
characfters name (a plus), and whoever winns or loses, it says the
characters name, too. That's the thing I always loved about mk games. Now
before this keyboard decides to act up on me I'll just quickly say that
these games can be found for very low price, but they are, of course, rare
and hard to find, unless you go somewhere like ebay. My favorite system of
all was the sega cd, back in '92. It was one of the first cd-based systems,
and while it didn't have many accessible games, its predicesor did, the sega
genisus. I won't go into all the specifics- just email me off list if
interested, I could write pages about the thing. Games, history, you name
it, I've got it. I simply loved that thing. and the sega cd just looked so
cool beside it, or rather, I imagined it to.

Memory lain...wow...
Oh, a note on killer instinct. Its so accessible, I've beaten it dozens of
times on easy dificulty. The nintendo 64 can be found for such a low price
that its a laugh, about 20 bucks, and the game itself is about 10. You can
go to
http://www.goatstore.org
or was it .com? I forget. To get it. Also, a few other games I recommend
hole heartedly:
mortal kombat triligy
rush 2: extreme racing USA
super smash bros (oh, god, the fun!)
killer instinct gold, of course
cruis'n USA, exotica, and world (although cruis'n world wasn't that
accessible)
excitebike 64
rampage: universal tour

I think that's it.

Subject: [Audyssey] WCW Mayhem for Playstation 1

 Hi,
I just got a couple used Playstation 1 games today: WCW Mayhem
and Fifa 98. I've started playing Mayhem, and so far it's not bad,
although I'm getting hit more than I am the opponent if the shaking
of my controller is anything to go by. However, I'm wondering if
anyone has any experience with this game as far as the menus are
concerned? I'm hoping to do a playable demo of it for my podcast once
I get more familiar with it.
Thanks.

 Yours Sincerely,
 Kelly John Sapergia

 2. then I clicked the order super liam button.
 3. I clicked ok.
Then I got a page telling me: 404 not found, and although I press f5 to

Hi Mark,

I might some day write a car driving or racing game to be part of the
WinKit, but it would be different than Mach 1. Mach 1 uses TegoSoft rather
than DirectX and of course recorded speech rather than the text to speech
engine, so it would probably be easier to write it from scratch rather than
trying to convert it all over.

Right now I am working on Homer on a Harley. It will be my first game that
uses DirectX keyboard input rather than the VB6 keyboard input. This means
that it can except more than one key press at a time and Homer on a Harley
takes more than one key at a time to drive. But so after that I hope to
learn to program for a joystick or steering wheel. So if I am able to do
that, we will have to see what kind of driving game I can come up with.

BFN
