I filter my messages already. Probably too much. I still shouldn't

Explore the corners of the maze. If you think about it, it's very similar
to an Arcade game from the 1980's, wherein you ran down corridors, avoiding
ghosts and eating food dots. But there were also certain items that might
give you an edge against the ghosts. In case you need it more plainly, in
the corners of the maze there are four alcoves, each of which contains a
special energy orb, each of a different olor. Eah orb will allow you to slay
one of the ghosts. It's not too hard to figure out which ghost is
susceptible to which energy. Just touch the orbs and go after the ghosts. If
you touh an orb and then encounter the wrong ghost, just attack it a few
ties and run at the first opportunity. You'll know when you've matched the
right orb to the right ghost beause the game will ask if you're sure it's
not already finished. As I said, there are four orbs and four ghosts. Kill
them all to face the final test.

[Audyssey] Moderator: This is Ridiculous

2008-01-30 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
You can always join the Magazine announce-only list which has very
little traffic if this list is too much for you.

Shadow Dragon said the following on 1/29/2008 5:38 PM:
Ok, so maybe my original post was a little harsh. *shrug* All I'm saying
is, is it really necessary to reply to every single message on the list? I
read audyssey to see when new games and the like come out, not to discuss
programming and why people can't use self-voicing programs or what people
think the best sapi voice is and the like. Perhaps there should be a list
split off from audyssey for game announcements only? That's all I'm
interested in, not having my inbox spammed by the same 2 or 3 people on a
 daily basis.

[Audyssey] Moderator: entire list on moderated status

2008-01-30 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Until everyone can calm down a bit, the entire list has been placed on
moderated status. Folks, if you don't want to read a message, exercise
your delete button. If you have a problem with a member on the list,
whether the member is a moderator or not, contact the other moderator or
the list owner privately instead of complaining about it on list. This
is why it's not just one person running the list. Continuing to bicker
about this on list serves no one and just adds to the high traffic about
the complaining in the first place. it always goes this way with lists,
someone complains, then someone replies about that complaint, then
someone else replies about the first two complaints, then someone adds
they don't care about the complaints, then the first person replies to
that one saying they don't care that they don't care. And it just spins
out of control. So, let's just all take a breather and relax a bit. if
people have problems with Tom, come to me or Kevin privately, if people
have problems with me, go to Tom or Kevin privately. if people have
problems with Kevin, come to me or Tom privately. Do you see how it works?

Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] sryth, little help

2008-01-30 Thread Bryan
Yeah, if you're not careful that maze can be tricky. But once you get it
figured out it's actually quite easy. A word of warning though about the
Demonscourge though. First, if you don't have the skill of Weaponry Bashing,
you'r MR may actually decrease somewhat when you equip the hammer, even
despite the 22-boost. Second, you actually won't get the weapon until the
final scenario. Of course after part 3 there's just one adventure left
before the finale.

I finally broke down and decided to make a return to Meriani after
listening to it being tossed around on this list as the everything of
gaming. After playing it a bit, I only have to say... what's different?

Still feels like SC to me. Which would be fine, except I'm generally
not a fan of games like SC. I'll play around with it a bit more as I
come up with time to, but as it stands right now... jury's still out.
Ask me in a week.

Re: [Audyssey] This is Ridiculous

2008-01-30 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Shadow Dragon,
As I pointed out a moment ago in my previous email I do not in fact
reply to every single email sent to this list. It may seam that way to
you, but that is simply not true. Though, as has been stated I will
attempt to cut down the number of posts I send.
Second, The Sapi voice thread you mentioned was apart of important
marketing research from USA Games. I will not apologise for using this
list or any other accessible gaming list to gather information that will
assist me in improving my products and or services.
Third, as for the programming topics you mentioned that has already been
delt with. If you have been following your emails as closely as you
think you would have seen I announced twice to this list a new forum
specifically designed for discussing game programming, and to take it
off this list.
Finally, as for mine or anyone elses email being spam it is not true.
Spam is by definition an unwanted advertisement sent to you at random.
This is a public mailing list which you signed up for, and no messages
on this list are spam. You can join or leave this list at any time you
choose.

Shadow Dragon wrote:
Ok, so maybe my original post was a little harsh. *shrug* All I'm saying
is, is it really necessary to reply to every single message on the list? I
read audyssey to see when new games and the like come out, not to discuss
programming and why people can't use self-voicing programs or what people
think the best sapi voice is and the like. Perhaps there should be a list
split off from audyssey for game announcements only? That's all I'm
interested in, not having my inbox spammed by the same 2 or 3 people on a
 daily basis.

Hi listers,
Please, remember Kevin, Raul, and I do discourage profanity of any kind

[Audyssey] joining the Interactive Fiction Group

Hi all,
This might be considered ot, so replies please offlist, however, there might
be people on here who would want to know the answer to this, and I also
don't know where to ask. Apparrently there is an interactive fiction group,
actually the official one called rec.arts.interactivefiction. My problem is
that I want to join, but the site says this is a Usenet group. My question
is, I've heard this term, what is, how do I use, subscribe to, and post to
this group and usenet? Is this accessible?

 No passive mode.

The track makers are in the odds and ends area.

Re: [Audyssey] Question about 7-128 Game Book.

2008-01-30 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi John,
Oh, I see. Yes, I wondered why that speed throttle wasn't doing anything
with FreeTTS. Now, I know. Smile
As for the different voices it is too bad you can't use MBrola do to
licensing and copyright with FreeTTS. That would allow you to have
different male and female voices for your mysteries.
Anyway, thanks a lot for listening to my requests.

John Bannick wrote:
 Thomas,

The control to which you refer is our Game Throttle.
It controls the speed of games that are time dependent.
It does not control the speed of FreeTTS.
If that isn't evident, then I gotta improve the labelling or something.

Right now we have no throttle on FreeTTS.
That being said, I notice that there is a setRate() method on the Voice class.
Hmmm... Might that be a clue, he says thoughtfully.

Within the next few days I'll do some noodling around in that code and see
if I can add a speech throttle.
We already play with the pitch in order to give different sounds by gender
and age (and pompousness, for the rich folks.)

 I'm familiar with speed hearing.
At our Boston Visually Impaired and Blind User's Group (VIBUG) meetings I
often feel like a bit of a dummy because so much goes by faster than I can
 hear.

Your helpful critique is always appreciated. I'll try to fix this and let
you know how it works out.

 John

[Audyssey] My responce was This is Ridiculous

2008-01-30 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Shadow Dragon and list,
First, if you have a problem with the number of posts I am writing,
don't like something I say, disagree with something I said, etc please
take it up with me off list privately. You can always reach me privately
off list at
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
rather than dragging the entire list into it. If you want to send a
message to me as well as my fellow list moderator you can send the
message to the
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
address and Kevin, Raul, and I will all recieve it at the same time.
Second, I will freely admit that I do a lot of heavy posting on this
list, and I apologise if you have been upset by the number of posting i
do on this list. As far as I am aware this list is here for everyones
enjoyment, there are no rules to how much or how little anyone can
post, and I was merely acting upon my freedom of speech to interact with
the fellow list members here.
Third, contrary to the message below I do not respond to every single
email on this list. I respond to a lot of them, but certainly not every
post. I most definitely do not

write 35 messages per day, which is a little bit of stretching the truth
don't you think?
Fourth, I still do programming, but I often take breaks to stop into the list
to see what is happening. I am on this list for my personal enjoyment, and I
enjoy reading all the posts that are not flaming me publically.

Finally, if you had come to me privately you might have discovered I am
a nice enough guy to listen to your request. Yes, in the future I will
try and tone down my messages for the lists sake, but in the future all
I ask from you guys is to come to me off list before getting on the list
tossing a hissy fit.

touch on all the great things you can do in it. (I didn't play SC, sorry,
although it sounded really cl!) I can bearly touch on anything- that's
the nice thing. Its got such a veriety of stuff to do you never get bored
with it. Lets see.

debris salvaging
asteroid hauling
missioning
atmospheric salvaging
archaeology
mining
artifacting
coming soon, relics
planetary surveying
the scanning of wormholes
buying new ships and trying to get the money and points to upgrade them
buying apartments and, if you have 5000 points, and 2 billion credits a
house
Just having fun.
What else, oh yeah. They have really good fast food places there. MCDoogles,
anyone? Or how about Lukes bar and grill. You'll find it all.

Its just so fun, I can't describe it, but I love it anyway.

On my ftp I have 2 track makers. One is a random track maker and the
 other
one is the standard track maker. To get to my ftp do the following:

 ftp site: djc.my-net-space.net
username: PlayingInTheDark Note each word is capitalized.
 password: racing
 port: 21
 No passive mode.

The track makers are in the odds and ends area.

Is it possible to create your own race tracks for the top speed game?
 If

 so,
how is this done or how do you do it?

[Audyssey] The next issue

2008-01-30 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
Hello everyone

Okay I'm sending out the usual reminder today about the next issue of the
mag. It will be the first of 2008 and hopefully I'll be able to include
something about the upcoming voting/awards.
I want to encourage, and almost beg, content thus far is going to be thin!
So articles and reviews are extremely important to make this publication
good this time.
A few review ideas would include:
Homer on a Harley
Monty preferably from someone with an unlocked version but not necessarily
7-128 gamebook games

Articles could be about genres of games not yet fully explored, types of
games you prefer to play over others and why, and even poetry as we featured
an issue or two back. Almost anything game related!
As always I'll do my best to put together Audyssey and make it a good one
but help is not only welcome but needed in keeping the diversity and
viewpoints fresh.

Thanks
Ron

Re: [Audyssey] voting on game of the year

2008-01-30 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
Hi All

Okay I've been meaning to get in on this voting but life's hectic
sometimes.
Anyway I am glad that Che is able and willing to host the page for voting
which I think keeps things easier. Thanks Che!
Second we do need to have a few different catagories. Commercial and free
are fine, however there should be slightly more division for the games.
Exactly what or how divided I'm not quite sure at this moment. I'll look
back and see what games have been released in 2007 or if someone has a
comprehensive list then after reviewing it people could make suggestions.
The main reason I feel we need a few catagories is as Dark said [I think
it was] comparing certain games is like apples and oranges.
To extend things, perhaps a combination of game elements such as replay,
genre, could go along with more technical items such as game ambiance,
documentation, ease of gameplay etc.
Hopefully I'll get a chance today to write up some further thoughts about
this.

Yes, I should have made that distinction, thanks for pointing that out.
I am sure you are right that many more people will vote than are
responding to this thread, especially once we publisize it a bit.
Right now I propose we list all games released in 2007 so folks can
nominate them for voting in two categories to keep things simple:
1. Commercial games including paid betas
2. free games and betas

So basically we would end up with a commercial and non commercial game of
the year.
There just seems to be too few game releases of different categories to
have seperate votes for sports, strategy etc.
  Thoughts?

 Hi Che,
Well, in the case of Betas there are some that are free and some that
are commercial. Montezuma's Return is definitely commercial, and to play
the full Beta someone needs an end user license. SoundRTS on the other
hand is totally free so there are no end user restrictions on playing
 the whole game.
Though, you definitely have a good point that the free games and
commercial games should be split up. Free games tend to have more end
 users than commercial games.
As for list feedback and comments that is typical for the list. It has
just been my personal experience people here like to do things
anonymously rather than speak up and be a more active member such as
giving feedback and chat. I've trolled through the membership lists
before and I have seen people in there who have never once asked one
question or sent one responce to the list. All I can guess is they are
the quiet type who just want to read, but not reply or be more active in
 decision making.

 Che wrote:
Well, perhaps two main categories would work best, so we don't get into
fragmenting everything down into sub groups too much given the limited
amount of games we have available.
Perhaps folks could nominate games for two categories, commercial
 games
and beta/free games together, or perhaps one category for all three.
This way, games which cost money and therefore have a much smaller user
base won't be up against free games and betas that have over a thousand
 players.
Beyond that, I'm not sure we want the complication of sub categories
 such
as sports and strategy games at least for this initial run, especially
 given
the rather tepid response from members about the idea so far. I think
 we've
had 3 or maybe 4 people respond to the thread, not exactly encouraging
 for
 huge voter turnout.
   Feedback?

Re: [Audyssey] Award catagories was: voting on game of the year

2008-01-30 Thread Che
  Hi Dark,
Yes, I see your point there.
Perhaps a few more sub categories would be in order, maybe something like
this:
  best overall commercial game
  best overall free game
  best strategy game
best action game
best sports game
best mud if there are new ones
  best fps
best fantasy game

Would this cover it? Each sub category would be broken down into free and
commercial as well.
  Thoughts?

Re: [Audyssey] windows monopoly.

2008-01-30 Thread Dark
Hello Lisa.

Yes there is indeed, it's free, self-voicing via Ms sapi, produced by Jim
Kitchin and is great.

You can get it from http://www.kitchensinc.net/

Along with quite a number of other games, including a self-voicing
version of the game of life boardgame.

For a similar game to monopoly, you might also considder trying Lords of the
Galaxy from Vip gameszone.

The rules are slightly different (you move through the galaxy buying and
selling planets), the game includes a few action style minigames for cash,
but the form of the game is there, it's sort of monopoly with a twist.

You can also play against other people online as well.

the only bad news is the game is not free, but there is a demo available.
You can get it from http://vipgameszone.com/index.php

Hth.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

[Audyssey] Problem with sounds in Miriani

2008-01-30 Thread Sarah Haake
Hi,

I just started setting up Miriani with Monkeyterm.
I just use Monkeyterm for the first time, but it works ok for me this far.
I downloaded the scripts from Liams site and the scripts for Jaws are
working, the game speaks. But the sounds that are included do not play.
Could someone please help me with that? I installed the soundpack, but only
the scripts work, not the sounds.

And another question:
After I opened the miriani.xml for the first time, how do I save or open it
the next time so the scripts work? Do I have to open the .xml file everytime
like I did it the first time or is there a quicker way?

Thanks for your help and sorry for my perhaps stupid questions, but I am
just a beginner! :-)

Greetings
Sarah

I can't seem to find a place to get the zip file containing all past issues up

Darren's zip file is sorrily out of date. grin.
It only has issues 1 to 43.
I have up to 48 but I would like to have issues 49 to the present in .txt form.

Re: [Audyssey] Award catagories was: voting on game of the year

2008-01-30 Thread Dark
Hi Che.

the problem I believe with doing it by genre as Tom said, is that so few
games of given genres have been produced, it'd be a forgone conclusion. for
example, I think the only sports game produced this year has been the update
to Jim's win baseball.

I do agree catagories like action and stratogy might be useful, but
personally I'd rather use those than commercial vs free, sinse there have
been some free games like Sound Rts and topspeed 2 which are amazingly
extensive and deep, and one or two commercial games, which I personally have
sometimes felt weren't quite up to standard, though for purposes of
these awards I don't think that'll be the case sinse none of the games I'm
thinking of were released in 2007.

Beware the Grue!

Re: [Audyssey] joining the Interactive Fiction Group

2008-01-30 Thread Dark
Hi Ari.

As far as I understand it Usernet was the networked of computers before the
internet became wide spread and main stream, though I'm stil not sure
why some people stil mention usernet groups.

As reguards interactive fiction though, the very official group I know is
google groups rec-games-int-fiction which can be found at
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/rec.games.int-fiction

You can have it go through your in box as a mailing list I before, or do
what I did and just use it like a web forum.

it's quite accessible except for setting up an account which requires image
varification, but as this is google just send them an E-mail and they'll
sort your account and password out very quickly, - mine were done within
a day as I remember.

the groups nice for finding out about new If and of course voting and the if
comps work through it, but things got a litle too technical quite a lot of
the time for my taste, which is why I'm not a member anymore.

Hth.

Beware the google!

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Opinion of Meriani after 1 day: meh.

2008-01-30 Thread shaun everiss
Well I am thinking about setting up something like a group of us that play
miriani together at the same time or something.
I tried playing it but its not much fun to do it alone, coms, chat aside and
ofcause firing at space structure so you get destroyed, delivering things and
salvaging.
Saying that I have never made enough to actually get anywhere.
I manage to get some stuff, the basics, minus a weapon and amo, a suit, a
standard cargo ship and a curior.
When I started out at first once I had someone help me and give me heaps of
cash.
I got a suit, an astoroid ship and a kit.
However I never actually went anywhere.
I am no good on targeting moving targets although i can target stationary
targets at will.
Thats the extent of my thing.
I leave my com off most times unless I have something to say or ask.
I'd still like another space mud, trek, starwars, etc.

Hello everyone

Okay I'm sending out the usual reminder today about the next issue of
the
mag. It will be the first of 2008 and hopefully I'll be able to include
something about the upcoming voting/awards.
I want to encourage, and almost beg, content thus far is going to be
thin!
So articles and reviews are extremely important to make this publication
good this time.
A few review ideas would include:
Homer on a Harley
Monty preferably from someone with an unlocked version but not
necessarily
7-128 gamebook games

Articles could be about genres of games not yet fully explored, types of
games you prefer to play over others and why, and even poetry as we
featured
an issue or two back. Almost anything game related!
As always I'll do my best to put together Audyssey and make it a good
one
but help is not only welcome but needed in keeping the diversity and
viewpoints fresh.

Thanks
Ron
Audyssey Editor

[Audyssey] Question about 7-128 Game Book.

2008-01-30 Thread John Bannick
Thomas,

Mbrola was what I wanted to use.
For one thing, it would allow me to better build some non-English voices.
However, at the time, and possibly now, the developers forbade its use in
commercial products.
The Europeans are funny that way sometimes.
FreeTTS has no such restrictions.

BTW. I'm setting the words per minute to start at 150 and increment by 50
up to 450.
Does that work for you?

John

  Hi Dark,
Yes, I see your point there.
Perhaps a few more sub categories would be in order, maybe something like
 this:
  best overall commercial game
  best overall free game
  best strategy game
 best action game
 best sports game
best mud if there are new ones
  best fps
 best fantasy game

Would this cover it? Each sub category would be broken down into free
 and
 commercial as well.
  Thoughts?

Hi Bryan,
Oh, yeah. Lucas Arts is very protective of their Star Wars copyrights.
Have you read the Star Wars terms of use lately? If not here is a small
quote from the Star Wars terms of use snipped from their license agreement.

Quote
STAR WARS; STAR WARS
: EPISODE I THE PHANTOM MENACE;
STAR WARS: EPISODE II ATTACK OF THE CLONES;
STAR WARS
: EPISODE III REVENGE OF THE SITH; STAR WARS
: EPISODE IV A NEW HOPE;
STAR WARS: EPISODE V THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK; STAR WARS
: EPISODE VI RETURN OF THE JEDI (collectively referred to herein as the “
Star Wars
Pictures”) and all other Lucasfilm productions, and all logos,
characters, artwork,
stories, information, names, software, and other elements associated
thereto are the sole and
exclusive property of Lucasfilm Ltd.. Any use of any of the materials on
this Site
other than for private, non-commercial viewing purposes is strictly
prohibited.
The sale, auction, lease, loan, gift, trade or barter, or use of any of
the Star Wars materials
contained herein, for any other purpose except as expressly permitted
pursuant to
these Terms of Use, in any form, media or technology now known or
hereafter developed,
including the use of any of the aforementioned materials on any other
Web site or
networked computer environment, without a prior written consent from
Lucas, is expressly
prohibited. Except as expressly provided for under the Terms of Use, the
creation
of derivative works based on the materials contained herein is expressly
prohibited.
You may download one copy of the materials on any single computer for
your personal,
non-commercial home use only, provided you keep intact all copyright and
other proprietary
notices. Modification of the materials or use of the materials for any
other purpose
is a violation of Lucas’s copyright and other proprietary rights.
End quote

That is only part of the license agreement, and what I did show is very
strongly worded. I read later on in the agreement that any ideas,
emails, stories, pictures, etc you create with Star Wars instantly
becomes the property of Lucas Film and Lucas Arts no questions asked. So
even if I wrote such a game according to the terms of use section of the
license agreement they have the right to take the game away, destroy it,
or whatever they want to do with it. Kind of hard to fight a license
agreement like that in court blind or not.
While some developer can sit around saying they won't bother me because
I am blind that is being a bit unrealistic. They might not, but then
again they have every legal right to do so. Their license agreement
sounds like they are pretty serious and they don't take very kindly to
any copyright violation in any way shape or form. Even though they may
be in the wrong for not offering an accessible SW game for us.

Bryan wrote:

Re: [Audyssey] Award catagories was: voting on game of the year

2008-01-30 Thread Charles Rivard
It was called 15 numbers. It was played within a 4 by 4 grid. There are 15
tiles numbered 1 through 15, and a blank space. You had to scramble the
tiles up, then slide them around so that the desired number sequence was
achieved. Or, there was Hi Q, in which you started with the center hole
empty, and you had to remove the peg you jumped over until there was only 1
peg remaining on the board, in the center hole. The one remaining peg was
of a different color than all the others, and you had to place it into the
correct place at the beginning of the game so that, if you made the right
moves, it was the only peg remaining, and it was in the center hole. Both
games are fun.

On my ftp I have 2 track makers. One is a random track maker and the other
one is the standard track maker.

That probably wouldn't be smart. At least if he released it as fanfiction

the public domain. But if he sold it...well you get the idea. It wouldn't be
pretty.

Hi Bryan,
Oh, yeah. Lucas Arts is very protective of their Star Wars copyrights.
Have you read the Star Wars terms of use lately? If not here is a small
quote from the Star Wars terms of use snipped from their license agreement.

Quote
STAR WARS; STAR WARS
: EPISODE I THE PHANTOM MENACE;
STAR WARS: EPISODE II ATTACK OF THE CLONES;
STAR WARS
: EPISODE III REVENGE OF THE SITH; STAR WARS
: EPISODE IV A NEW HOPE;

[Audyssey] hand held fishing games

2008-01-30 Thread Charles Rivard
Has anyone had success with any of the handheld games of fishing that are sort
of like a vibrating fishing rod? I have one called Lunker Deep Sea that I
haven't been able to use as of yet. I was able to catch fish with one several
years back that was called lunker bass, but this one must be more visual than
that one was, and it doesn't have as good of a feel to it when a fish nibbles.

 Hello Lisa.

Yes there is indeed, it's free, self-voicing via Ms sapi, produced by Jim
 Kitchin and is great.

You can get it from http://www.kitchensinc.net/

Along with quite a number of other games, including a self-voicing
version of the game of life boardgame.

For a similar game to monopoly, you might also considder trying Lords of
 the
 Galaxy from Vip gameszone.

The rules are slightly different (you move through the galaxy buying and
selling planets), the game includes a few action style minigames for cash,
but the form of the game is there, it's sort of monopoly with a
 twist.

You can also play against other people online as well.

the only bad news is the game is not free, but there is a demo available.
You can get it from http://vipgameszone.com/index.php

 Hth.

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] copyrights

2008-01-30 Thread Bryan
Most mainstream devs are. True, Nintendo did seem very open to the idea of
blind accessible games when I spoke to them a while back, but I still
wouldn't fancy trying to copy one of their titles without perrmission.
Dragon Slayer Games is certainly pushing their luck with their Mario game.
Admittedly it's probably going to be free, but still. Anyway, as far as I'm
concerned that Mario game, despite their claim, isn't really in the true
Mario spirit, even if it features music and sounds from the game.

That probably wouldn't be smart. At least if he released it as fanfiction
and freeware, Lucas Arts wouldn't have any leg to stand on because it was in
the public domain.

: EPISODE I THE PHANTOM MENACE;
STAR WARS: EPISODE II ATTACK OF THE CLONES;
STAR WARS
: EPISODE III REVENGE OF THE SITH; STAR WARS
: EPISODE IV A NEW HOPE;

Got one around somewhere? I could send you the solution, off list, if I
remember how to do it. Or I could send the solution in as an article for

a way to do it using a sheet of braille paper and a Perkins brailler, using
pennies and a dime as the game pieces.

Re: [Audyssey] Award catagories was: voting on game of the year

2008-01-30 Thread Che
Right, but the problem with voting on commercial versus free games is the
user base is ten times that for a free game as it is for a commercial game,
and it would not be a fair competition since so many people would be voting
for the free games, not having played the commercial ones, so for me, this
seems like a must have difference in categories.
Regarding the sports category, I think these could be lumped into action.
Like wise, a card game could go into strategy, we just have to broaden the
definition of the categories a bit to keep the number down it seems to me.
Also, like Thomas and Raul I have lots of stuff going on outside of this
voting deal, so I would rather keep the categories to a manageable number,
less than ten total categories would be ideal.
  Later,
  Che

 Hi Che.

the problem I believe with doing it by genre as Tom said, is that so few
games of given genres have been produced, it'd be a forgone conclusion.
 for
example, I think the only sports game produced this year has been the
 update
 to Jim's win baseball.

I do agree catagories like action and stratogy might be useful, but
personally I'd rather use those than commercial vs free, sinse there have
been some free games like Sound Rts and topspeed 2 which are amazingly
extensive and deep, and one or two commercial games, which I personally
 have

Re: [Audyssey] copyrights

If any developers have thoughts of using any copyrighted material and
making a profit from it, I highly suggest you set up a LLC for your company.
This stands for limited liability company, and basically protects the owner
from lawsuits going after their personal property for any claims.
Though I don't intend on pushing copyright stuff with blind adrenaline,
this protects me if some bozo wants to claim my software screwed up his
computer or something similarly frivilous.
A good lawyer can do this for you for around $100, plus you will need a
checking account for the company for tax purposes.
Having seen some small businesses get burned, I highly recommend this
setup for any small game developers.
  Later,
  Che
