I like numbers 2 and 3 of those suggestions. We've actually thought about 3, but never implemented it. I think that the following suggestions/ideas would be useful. They would also allow for lots of customizations. Here they are. 1. Create a section within the options menu called allowed vehicles or something. In this section, create several checkbox-style listings of every available vehicle. From here, players can uncheck or check different vehicles, customizing the list from which the game could draw it's selection. For example, the second default motorcycle crashes very often on tracks with hard or hairpin turns. I'd like the option to tell the game not to use this vehicle. Plus, I like the Street Racer. I would like it if this vehicle could be selected. 2. In the same vein, I'd like to see a Custom Race option, in which you can choose the vehicles for up to the eight player limit. This would enable you total control over who you're racing with and how many you're racing against. The difficulty setting would apply to all other options, but not this one. 3. I'd like the option to fill the empty spots in an internet game with computer players, if so desired. This could either be random or custom. 4. Totally random, slightly pointless. I'd like to be able to set up a strictly computer race and spectate, switching between the cars with numbers 1 through 8 or however many players. Hi. The address used to be http://games.asmodean.net however I've not put them back up there. So, Liam Erven is still graciously hosting them for me. The site to get them from is http://www.liamerven.com/games Many thanks. Though, some of your other suggestions are possible. I'd suggest listening to Raul's audio walkthrough on Lonewolf first to get an idea of how the game is play. The address is http://games.asmodian.net if I am not mistaken. dark wrote: Thanks Casey, that's an incredibly kind offer. Perhaps something that plays a bit more like a cross betwene the first mission and a tutorial, with ships of various speeds passing at various points, and some handy messages popping up during the mission to give hints as to where would be a good targiting angle and placement. My problem is working out where I should put my sub to shoot a moving ship once I know it's course, sinse this seems to change hugely with the course and speed of the targit, so some hints and practice in this would be great. You could even give it some atmosphere and plot by having it be your qualification course for becoming a sub captain, or something similar. Btw, what happens about mission numbers? I have all the 75 missions from gma games, bringing my total up to 92, but I'd imagine people have created more, probably taking the total over the 99 mark. What happens then? Oh, and where are these extra missions? If david is not hosting them at Gma, might they be hosted elsewhere? The same goes for this tutorial mission if your kind enough to create it casey, sinse it should deffinately be available to everyone I think. Hi. This here is a spoiler, I think. Having said that, anyone who just might not wanna hear this might wanna scrap this here message before you actually read the spoiler! Walk into the blade only when it is quiet. Notice it makes noise every two seconds or so. Wait till it goes quiet, then step in on it. If it's the blade i'm thinking of you want to go west after you get there. You have to move fast before the sound is heard again, because the blade swings when it makes that noise, and one swing is enough to kill. - Original Message - From: Terrence van Ettinger AKA Angus MacLaren [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Friday, November 28, 2008 2:10 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] cutting lades? [Audyssey] Some ideas for games
Hi Gamers, I have some new ideas for AUdiogames: I wu'd like to have a game where you have to walk around and kill people and also be able to take cars and race to different places where you have to win races and get money. THen you'll have to drive again around kill some new people and then you'll have to make some missions and thenn if you've all this done you've to drive around kill some people, be able to buy some things in the store and just have fun. And online too. LIke there to peoples. ONe for example drives the car and the other one shootes the Peoples with the Gun or something. That's sound's not easy. But it wu'd be cool to have a game like this. -- Ciao, Kevin mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype: Foerbye1996 MSN: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ICQ: 424-263-367 Yahoo: kevinweisi AIM: weispfennigkevin Klango-Username: kevinweisi Klango-Blog: http://kevinweisi.klango.net Blinknation-Profil: http://www.blinknation.com/weisi4u Blinknation-Blog: http://www.blinknation.com/weisi4u/weblog --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Hi all. I personally like the individual IP server set-up we've got now. Rail Racer is good, and it's a centralized location, but running a server like that with enough bandwidth to cover the networking demands isn't free. I have one more suggestion, and I think that it's simple enough that it should pose no problems. I like the new cars that have been added to ts 2.1. They're great. I'd like to suggest that all the old cars from the Top Speed Alpha be added, not just the pickup truck. I know that this means lots of default cars, but I think it'd be very interesting, seeing as it would provide the player with another ... six cars to choose from, if memory serves. By the way, if you do this, please keep the Classic. I know it sounds a lot like the ... German Auto? (Can't spell in Dutch, sorry... but keep them both. They don't seem to be the same car or sound. I'd also like to see the Californian Street Racer put in there as well. It was made by you guys, and it's a well-balanced car. Maybe also put Zandvoort? the track wherever it would belong. That's another good track that could come shipped with the game. Player-made vhc and trk files are good, and now it doesn't matter who made the trk file, but the more vhc files we can use in multiplayer, the better. Sorry for the long post. You are right. For example, the german cruiser has a bad sounding thikking error, and the others are not realistic, only the pickup was good enough to put back in. - Regards, Leonard de Ruijter e-mail: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On zaterdag 29 november 2008, at 19:06:28, wrote Davy: If I remember correctly, those old cars were removed because they sounded bad. Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed 2.1 suggestions/ideas.
Hi Dakotah, that I do absolutely agree with! Even most tracks are just a piece of cake in the better case, and an absolute non-sense in the worse one. :-) I really fancy the Raly through the desert, perhaps the very most of all the official tracks. By the way, what do you think about the Flameblaster or Toyota Corola? These are creations of me and a friend of mine and we tried to make those cars real fun or challenge but still keep them realistic. Flameblaster is designed mainly for beating the slower computer opponents on tight tracks where there are not too many straight sections while Corola is better suited for tracks where you don't need to brake or shift down so often, or you have enough time to accelerate up to the top speed again, but still being maneuverable when you steer. We have also created the Harley Davidson, Jeep, Tank and HOrse but these are mostly for pure fun, except for the Harley which attempts to be another usable heavy terrain motorcycle, fast but not very good for tight tracks. We found the official vehicles from TS 2.0 a bit too slow, except for the cranked up quatro, but didn'T want to push things up too much. And, I would almost forget about the Rail racer which is a simulation of the vehicle from Che Martin's Rail Racer... If you like an enjoyable street adventure, try the Dreamland tour or the Two towns trip, we have also made these. Now you have named the finest examples of stupid childish cars. Yeah, they are fast but if you want to have a real, funny but challenging and especially realistic race, they are no good. The others you mentioned, such as the tank, plane, train or horse, are just for pure fun. Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed 2.1 suggestions/ideas.
Hi, at first, when the whole thing was launched, supporting custom creations, and the user-created stuff boom began, we have uploaded everything to the PITD community site, which now seems to be down. Then, everything was being hosted on DJC's Top Speed ftp server, which is as well up no more. Therefore, they are now hosted on X-sight-interactive's server directly, I was able to download them successfully with their TS2 utility pack when 2.1 RC1 was released. If you have problems installing the pack, try visiting http://www.xzip.com (I believe), maybe the last domain should be org, googling should help) and install it, then try installing the pack itself again. If it doesn't work, I can always send my creations directly to you. Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed 2.1 suggestions/ideas.
Okay, please keep in mind that we're already very close to a final 2.1 release, so we won't really accept new features anymore. We may do some cool things in version 2.2, but not too much. On the other hand, we've got some secret plans of writing an entirely new engine, either for a racing game or for something else... [Audyssey] Is Mudding for Me?
Hey all, Well, I've attempted to start on Discworld once again. I haven't yet, but I was sitting at the login prompt, thinking. Ever since leaving Alter Aeon, I've always had this problem about not memorizing where things are where I want to go, and in the past I always asked, and either I didn't get help, was taken there, etc, usually taken there. The problem with that is is that people speedwalk areas when I follow them, so it's like wo, where am I going and how do I get there? In discworld, of course, I always used to reley on those earchans that would take you to guilds and things. I was fine with that, but getting back was a problem, attempting to walk anyway. I hate using the godmother when it's such a short distance and I can walk there. And I guess the reason I like disc is for it's complex gameplay. It's not just some mud where you can type kill orc and watch the fight. I just hate asking for directions to places, and going in random directions really doesn't help me either, and I say that for all big muds. Oh, I also like Disc because of the amount of websites and players and the whole community. I just find it hard to memorize something that, along the line, if there's 14 exits in a room, leading off somewhere, which is the right one. Than again, it seems I have this problem with fighters and consoles too, do a combo and five seconds later forget what I did and have to look at the move list again. And on Christmas, it'll probably be even worse for Rock Band because I'll have to remember evenmore than a fighter or anything like that lol. Yet I do good in school so it's not some mentally retarded issue or anything, or at least I hope not... --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Is Mudding for Me?
Hi. It sounds more like a spacial concept issue more than anything. Not retarded, nothing wrong with you, other than your brain just probably does not process spacial concepts very well. On a basic level, if someone says that an object is 30 feet in front of you, under the table and to the right of the leg of a chair, can you picture in your head where that is without actually going there? Re: [Audyssey] Is Mudding for Me?
Hi there. How about, when you do figure out the right moves, like the right ways to go, or anything that helps you recognise where you are, how about writing them in Notepad, or Word or something like that? I quite often write notes in a file in Wordpad, so I can have it open at the same time as mudding, and add to the document or follow what I have done before. Hope this helps. Kirstan. Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed 2.1 suggestions/ideas.
One thing that would help me in car and track design would be some notion of what the units of measure are. How long is a straight-away that is 30,000 units long? How much turning is in a hard turn vs. a regular turn? What does a maximum velocity of 26,000 translate to in real world terms? I find that when laying out a track, it is very difficult to visualize the final layout since I don't know how curvy a curve really is. Re: [Audyssey] Bavisoft again
Hi Ari. personally, I found Gg far too easy even on the hard difficulty. While the audio and voice acting is good, the game's concept seemed a litle symple to me, and to be perfectly honest I only bought Gg because I wanted chillingham. Chillingham on the other hand is a very nice game, allbeit one with some distinct flaws. Once again, icely done audio, pluss a choose your own adventure type setup and a few puzles. The problem is the game wasn't really long or challenging enough, and one particular section, - the bug hunting got rather repetative. A good idea, but a bit of a pest I thought. Chillingham is one of these things which is a wonderful concept, deffiantely worth playing, but just slightly too short. Then of course there's the lack of replay value, though in fairness both games have such good acting and audio you can replay them in the same manner as you'd rewatch a film, most particularly Chillingham. If I could actually find wwhich safe place I stashed the cd's in I'd reinstall them myself on both of my computers, -- but unfortunately I'm not sure where they went at the second. That's my thoughts on the games anyway. If there ever was a Bavisoft mailing list, I never heard of it. Beware the Grue! Hi Matheus. I forgot about the game speed and you are right that that increases the difficulty. Also on a general level I do quite enjoy blackjack and the shell game as quick, stand alone minigames in themselves, - though even if I decide not to use the bank cheat, I stil made most of my cash through getting rewards from saving the bank from robbery rather than the casino games. Good point Lisa. Especially with Chillingham having the world's most terrible, sequal begging, un-plot revealing, inconclusive excuse for an ending that it does. I wouldn't mind except it doesn't seem all that likely that we'll ever see a chillingham 2, and while the first game had some interesting puzles (not counting the excessive bug hunting), it really didn't do mutch about what was actually going on in Chillingham or what Lilly was doing. Re: [Audyssey] Top Speed 2.1 suggestions/ideas.
Ok Ok. This topic has become all muddled up with both features and opinions of cars and tracks. I know that some of the older cars from the Alpha don't sound quite realistic, but frankly none of the default cars' sounds perfectly loop. This is no offense to anyone; it's just the way things are. I know that, for example, the Chopper doesn't quite sound like a real bike, but the other two motorcycles sound exactly real either. The only car that seems to be out of balance is the diesel truck? It is very slow and had terrible stearing, compared to the other cars. The American V8 sounds great to me, and it is fairly comparable with the Classic. The German Cruiser too sounds pretty good and is a mid-range car. I'd like to see those three added, at least, the Chopper, American V8, and German Cruiser. The Rally Car, Formula 1 car, and Diesel Truck are all slightly out of balance, but would still be interesting additions, just to broaden multi-player with little hassle. Outside of the Alpha cars, the Californian Street Racer hasn't been mentioned yet, whether positively or negatively. I know that that vehicle is well-balanced and generally a good sounding car. To be honest, I say the more cars the merrier. I'd happily submit my better cars for approval, but I don't like blowing my own horn so to speak. I love the game a lot, and only want people to have a huge multi-player aspect. As for the other stuff that's got mixed in, such as opinions on cars, I'm going to start a new thread. [Audyssey] User-Created Top Speed Cars.
i'm going to begin this thread with a brief apology. I mean absolutely no offense by some criticisms I'm going to end up making. I know that some of my cars have bombed, too. Also, if the developers see me making a mistake, please correct me. I'm doing math based on e-mails we sent back and forth about two years ago. I'm sure I'm misremembering something. A bit of background: If I remember right, the speeds of the car in units are however many units it travels in a second. Also, if I remember right, each track unit of length is about a half a centimeter. Therefore, a car that has a top speed of 26000, which I think is the speed of the Cuatro, moves 26000 times .5 centimeters a second, which is 468 kilometers an hour, which is about 291 miles per hour. I'm not entirely sure that my info's right, but we'll see, I guess. The comments I'm going to make won't really be affected if I'm wrong. Now that that's all done, I'm not going to go through every car or track and say what I do and don't like, because I haven't played all of them, and because that would take too long anyway. I will, however, make some general comments. The Cuatro is very, very fast. There have been cars that go faster, but they're very rare. I've seen many cars that have a top speed of above this level amongst the user-created vehicles. The Toyota Corola has a top speed of about 28000. This in combination with the fact that it stears well and accelerates fast means that no computer car could beat you under any circumstances unless you crashed. That, in my opinion, is the mark of a bad car, one in which the computer could not beat you. This doesn't, obviously, apply to fun cars like the Road Ripper, F18 Fighter, Light Speeder, Hover Demon etc. Other than it's high top speed, the Corola is a good car. If the Top Speed was reduced to, say, between 19000 and 22000, it would make sense. Top speed of a car isn't the only problem I see. People give their cars rediculus acceleration and deceleration values as well. A car should not be able to jump from 0 to top speed in like a second and a half. That just doesn't happen. That's one awesome thing about the light speeder. It is extremely fast, but you have to have patience to get it there. Many cars just jump to ludicrous speed and forget realism. Then, people give the car this rediculusly high stearing number. I don't know what standard is, but I'll use the Street racer for a measuring stick. It's stearing is at 215. I've seen cars up to 300 something, down to 50 something. Too much stearing means that you tap the arow or whatever and you go insanely off course. Too little means nothing happens. THen, there's stearingFactor. That measurement is the percentage that your car's stearing degrades at high speed. The Street Racer's is at 93. That means that it's 93% as effective at high speed as at low speed, if I remember correctly. I've never heard of a car that goes fast and has perfect stearing at that high speed, therefore I question those cars with StearingFactors of 100. My basic point throughout this message is this: look at cars that have been made by the developers, like the StreetRacer. Make your cars based on realistic models, or say they're unrealistic to begin with. Balance your car so that it is actually possible for a computer car to be better than it is on either speed, acceleration, stearing ability, or something. I'd love to help however I can. Trust me, there are lots of people's cars that I would love to just give a tiny tweek and be satisfied. Many people have great ideas and sound effects. That's why I redid the Harley Davidson fatboy 2000 cc, whoever's that was. I liked the idea, but I didn't like the execution. That's personal preference. Feel free to ignore me, criticize me. I certainly have criticized my share. Thanks all for reading. Happy modding. Re: [Audyssey] Night of parasites
Hi. Yeah, to install it, the installer isn't english, so you have to hit alt+n like 5 times after you open the file, and then hit alt+f. That should install it. - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Saturday, November 29, 2008 9:55 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Night of parasites Hi folks, I am going to download night of parasites later on today. Re: [Audyssey] User-Created Top Speed Cars.
Hi. That one was mine. If you like, you can send it back to me and I'll post it up on the site it's at, and say it's a more realistic version. I too have been trying to make sure my cars are more realistic now than I used to but they haven't started circulating very well yet. http://valiant8086.x-sight-interactive.net/games/sims/topspeed On top of that, I degrated my sound quality on all of the cars on the site back a few months in attempt to save space on my limited 29 mb of storage. But now I have much much more space than that, so I can crank the quality back up. many of the cars gwere really messed up when I did that so the engine pitches are way off the wall at the moment. I fixed several of them, but Some are still messed up. Specific ones I know of that aren't right include the mustang gt and the monster truck A. - Original Message - From: Dakotah Rickard [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, November 29, 2008 9:51 PM Subject: [Audyssey] User-Created Top Speed Cars. i'm going to begin this thread with a brief apology. Signed: Dakotah Rickard --- Gamers mailing list __
Re: [Audyssey] Bavisoft again
Hi Ari, All I can do is wish you the best of luck. As you can see Bavisoft is not ranked high on the listers minds and the reason is do to the fact Bavisoft has really gone down hill since Chillingham was released. Not answering tech support e-mails and getting orders a long time after someone purchases them top the list of complaints. One of my biggest complaints is they aren't even trying to become Vista compatible which means that Windows XP is probably the last OS that will successfully run their software error free. Cheers! ari wrote: ooh, this sounds bad. I'm wondering, I should give them about a month and if I don't hear anything, mom will have to phone the credit card company, but this will be hard. Will update the list on what happens. Surely it can't be hard for them to copy the disks and send them to me, even if they don't work on projects. If, however, they have a site, take orders and don't send the stuff, that's absolutely shameful! I'll also email the support add to see if I get something. Re: [Audyssey] Bavisoft again
Hi Charles, Definitely. Chillingham was cool the first time through do to the puzzle solving involved. problem is once you solve all of the puzzles it is basically going through the motions of a game. It has no more mysteries to unlock/explore. The fight seens with the witches, vampires, etc aren't really difficult and not random enough in my opinion. The prices for Bavisoft's games are a bit pricy for the little replay value they have. With their lack of tech support and delays on shipping the games that is even less reason to support them financially in my opinion. Charles Rivard wrote: While I do wish he had made demos available, and he could have promoted more, I believe health was a huge factor. I also thought, as a potential consumer, that his games were to costly based on their lack of replay value. --- Pretty is as pretty does. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Night of parasites
Hi Linzy. You might want to check it's audiogames.net entry page, sinse I wrote up a litle mini manual as the manual of the game takes a bit of reading given translation rom chinese. I won't give you any exploration tips or anything walkthrough like before you even start, but don't get discouraged at combat, it takes a bit of getting used to, and remember that the look keys are your friends. I'm also a big fan of using coordinates to remember locations that are confusing, such as which dor I may or may not have entered. hth, and enjoy he game. Beware the Grue!
