[Audyssey] A new commic gamebook being written
Back in 2011 I wrote a commic gamebook called the Horrible dungeons of dreadful doom. I did it mostly to test the Darkgrue gamebook creation program, and thus it was rather rushed, but I actually got a lot of fun out of writing it. When i sit down to considder writing another gamebook, i always find the plots going dark and find myself less motivated with anything serious. Then I remember how much fun I had writing dungeons and so decided it needs a sequel. This I'm calling the Horrible Forest of Frightful fear. It's intended to be a little better presented than dungeons, sinse I'm taking more time over the writing and actually having a propper stats system. I also have had some interesting ideas for the actual plot and elements of the story. I'm currently writing the introduction and rules section, but have already written the story not so far a retelling of the salient points of The Horrible dungeons of dreadful doom for people who aven't read it, I'll post that below sinse I find myself quite pleased with the humour. If however you'd prefer to play the original gamebook rather than read the commical synopses, you can download it on https://www.sendspace.com/pro/8vq939 Oh, and if anyone wants to try out Darkgrue, you can find it on http://www.kaldobsky.com/audiogames/ The story not so far. Your name is Jo Mcavaerage and for the majority of your life nothing all that interesting happened. Well of course there was the usual everyday drama of living, relationships, a career, the need to desperately seek harmony among your fellow humans in an enormous and perplexing cosmos and struggle for an individual and authentic expression of your own unique self actualization, but for all practical purposes nothing all that significant, or at least nothing anyone would bother writing a gamebook about anyway. Even whether Jo actually was short for Joseph, Josephine, John or Joanne wasn't really something of any particularly major significance IN YOUR LIFE. One day however while spending a summer holiday with your parents (Stan and Norma), at the rain drenched seaside resort Dullnesse on sea, you were accosted by a witchy old lady in a red van offering completely none magical and perfectly safe doughnuts. As it turned out the old lady wasn't just witchy, but was a real witch named Sugarina, and what's more was a witch of the child mouse making, involuntary sculpturizing, mermaid voice stealing kind. She was also lying on almost all counts, since the doughnuts were definitely magical and far from safe since one bight transported you to an ironic, perplexing and definitely unsafe dungeon. In fact one could almost call it the horrible dungeons of dreadful doom accept that that would be a stupid and entirely ridiculous name for such a place and only occur to a really bad writer of ammeter gamebooks. Anyway, despite being confronted by trolls, 7 headed horrors, aggressive ninjas, and more puns than a life time of punishment you actually didn't do too badly in the dungeon. You ran into the jaws of a mysteriously helpful grue who told you that you would need two mystical objects to complete the dungeon, the adjective of noun and the prawn of destiny, yes prawn! The prawn you were able to get from the frighteningly loud and distinctly terrifying pirate Davy Jones after looting his locker, while the adjective (actually a small plastic card), was in the possession of Gougehook Throatmangler and his gang of goblin miners. These goblins you found quite different to how you expected, since though they did give vent to goblin folk songs about slaughter and pillage THAT WAS ONLY TO RESPECT TRADITION. In reality they were actually rather kindly in a fluttery, over enthusiastic way. They gave the Adjective of noun to you in thanks for your help breaking the spell on a magic door that was in their way. They also had a goblin centric retelling of the Lord of the rings which gave you a valuable code that you used to retrieve the 2 ring from a strange mechanism. This turned out to be a small, cheep looking, silver and definitely not very precious ring with the power to make it's wearer invisible. With the help of this ring and a surprisingly useful item which you believed at first was just a red herring (actually because it was a red herring), you confronted the highly nasty witch Sugarina in her foul lair, a disconcerting mixture of torture chamber, dark enchantress's laboratory and flouncy old lady's room. A smack with your trusty weapon (or at least your trusty fish), forced Sugarina to take a doughnut transmogrification spell to the kisser and leave nothing but a nasty sugary stain on her abominably pink carpet. Taking a large bight out of one of the doughnuts Sugarina created during her erratic spell hurling, you find yourself standing back on the road by the beach beneath the drizzling rain with nothing to show for your

Re: [Audyssey] downloading and installing the looktel voice overtutorial
Well dark and all when possible I try to download apps music, etc when I can on my pc when I can its a bit fiddly but its probably a bit better you just t have to sync it though once its in the cloud then it should be done. At 01:21 a.m. 26/06/2014, you wrote: Hi Nicol. I have my Iphone here so I will give you a step by step guide on getting the tutorial. First, if you've not done this already go to settings and under the Itunes and Ap store section you can make an Apple id. This requires filling in the fields on the form and is a little involved but you only need to do it the once. If you have a credit card I'd recommend putting your information into that form so you can buy paid aps, though it's not needed for the looktell tutorial sinse that is free. Once you've got your apple id do the following. 1: flick through the home screen until you come to ap store and double tap to open it. 2: go to the bottom right of the screen. On the very bottom right is an item called updates, just in from that is the Search item, that is what you want. 3: Double tap the top left part of the screen where you here vo say search, search field duble tap to edit 4: Now on the on screen keyboard that pops up start typing in lookttell The search is dynamic and will change and display more results at the top of the screen as you input more letters. I only had to type in l o o k t to have enough for the search to work. 5: now, flick through until you find the looktell voice over tutorial. I typed in l o o k t and it was third on the list behind things like the looktel money reader and double tap it. 6: You will now be on a page with various information about the ap (every ap has a page like this). at the top are several bits of information you can show, details, reviews, and related (that one is important sinse it's how you see all the aps made by a specific company). Have a look at the info and get familiar with how these pages work, but to download just click on the button that says free if this was a paid ap you'd see the required price there instead. 7: Now you will be asked to enter your apple id password (this is why I suggested creating an Id first, sinse going through id creation at this point is a bit of a pest). Once that is done and you've clicked okay, that free button will turn into an install button. double click to start install and the label will instead say something like Cancel download ten percent when the download is finished that will change to an open button. It's also worth noting that if you bought an ap on another system, or if you downloaded an ap and then deleted it, you will also see an install button in the ap store instead of either the paid or free button and you won't need to add your apple id again. 8: As regards icons, once you start the ap downloading an item will appear on your first page labeled looktell tutorial but until it is downloaded it will say downloading x percent (so once you've started the download you don't need to keep the ap store open). You can also move the icon around just like the icons for settings, ap store, mail or whatever if you want to organize things differently. that's pretty much it. It's a slightly different process to installing on windows but it's fairly streight forward once you get the idea, indeed the hardest part is probably just understanding the pages and what needs doing sinse there isn't really much in the way of explanation, so hopefully this helps. [Audyssey] Cash of dragon pass?
Well I did it! The dark tower clan became rulers of their tribe, and in 2365 won the ten year ring after completing three heroquests. I'm actually a little sorry my Iphone doesn't like my mail server sinse it'd be nice to post my trib'es saga as some quite interesting things happened. The tribe got formed in 2341, however at that poin I didn't have a trickster at all (actually there were none in my clan), so I didn't want to try for the ring sinse I didn't fancy trying heroquests without preparation. Then however after the first king died, my chief failed to live through the king rights, so once again I ended up waiting. Still I'm happy with the fact my rather awsome almal worshipping chief, who was also great at combat became king. The hard part was actually the heroquests and even though I had all the possible advantages, a trickster, the scarf of 7 runes (which helps success in quests), I confess I did cheat on the Orlanth and Daga one and restored games twice. One major factor in finishing heroquests seems to be how much magic you have, also i believe the destiny and heroism magic rituals in sacred time help. Interestingly enough, though your told to wait a year between heroquests, I was able to perform one on each of the next three years, though those were the two easiest, the storm tribe quest and the urnalda feeds the tribe quest. I also performed Chalana arroy heals the scars earlier on, though when I was trying for three specific heroquests to complete the ring I decided to go for the easier ones. I also do admit to cheating once when i managed to get my entire clan slaughtered by dragonewts :D. Still I'm pleased I managed to actually finish this for once, and what's more with no fudes, alliances with 8 other clans, about 20 or so treasures, and a very stable herd and economy. I'm tempted to try again streight off, but given that so called short game took me a good two days (I believe around 18 hours of play), goodness knows how long the long game is:D. One amusing fact is that basically throughout the last 5 or 6 years, between a great temple to isseries and an isseries ring member and several handy treasures I had so much money it was ridiculous, indeed that's how I accumulated treasures. at one point I had over 400 goods. This meant that I usually solved problems by throwing money at them until they went away which was quite funny. oh mighty chief, the bluee sproos have just cursed us! oh never mind, I'll hyer some priests, and then go and chuck money at the blue sproos until they like us enough not to curse us :D Indeed, I had so much by way of cattle and money I was only going on cattle raids to stop my weaponthanes winjing at me, and even then I had to be careful given that I didn't have any feuding clans to go and harrass and so had to intersperse cattle raids with my allies. The really hilarious thing is clearly the gods had it in mind for me to have a feud! clans of the tribe I was supposed to be allied to kept coming and raiding me, where upon I'd beat the hell out of them, frequently taking horses, and then, when I was asked if I wanted to break the alliance I'd just ask them for fare compensation, where upon they'd send me more cattle! It almost felt creul! How dare you attack me and get totally slaughtered! I demand that you pay me now! :d. I do think though the war situation had potential to get worse, given that none human races seem to be cropping up more seriously, as were bad encounters with chaos creatures, (I had a temple to urex for this). My worst defeat was when over 60 of my population got munched by a big bad chaos beast I tried to attack, that was bad! Though the horse spawn continued to be really feeble! I also had a ridiculously huge pof ool magic from those heroquests and from being lucky, on one occasion i had 46 points. Indeed though the manual says you should heroquest every two years it seems almost better to heroquest successively when your required to do them, because then you've got a big heap of magic in reserve. So yes! I can say the dark tower clan was successful at the ring, and I'm quite pleased to have done it. Beware the grue! Re: [Audyssey] Announcing release of Traders of Known Space
Hi Milo. Interceptor is a turn bbased strategical space combat game where you control a single spaceship and must decide on your moves in battle as you fight various alien ships. it's not really like anything we've seen thus far, your ship for example has various systems which can be damaged that affect various other things, and you can similarly decide to target your enemy's weapons, or life support or shields. However if you want to know fully about the game go to http://www.valiantgalaxy.com/interceptor/documentation.html where you can read the documentation (how I know myself). I'm quite looking forward to it, as it sounds both unique and interesting in it's tactics, though I am a trifle concerned as to whether there will be enough variety in your opponents, still we'll see. Re: [Audyssey] info about Interceptor from Valiant Galaxy Associates
Interceptor is a menu-driven space fighter simulator. It consists of ten levels, and you must deal with various types of ships. There's two versions, a quick mode in which damage to your fighter does not have any additional effect in most cases. In normal mode, if systems are damaged they impair the ship in several ways. A good example of this is the navigational computer; if damaged, it puts you closer to death (nav comp is one of the critical systems) and it makes accuracy in distance traveled dicey. There is a small variability built into the distance traveled which damage to the nav computer increases. Currently, we are waiting on distribution architecture to be ready before we release Interceptor. There are also a few legal and business issues to work out before we release the game commercially. If you have more questions, I'll be happy to give you more details within reason. Re: [Audyssey] TKS release and Interceptor
Dark, As to TKS this is the original post that I sent to the list the same night I posted on Audiogames.net. It's finally escaped durance vile (Thanks Thomas). As to Interceptor, there are currently two types of drone ships, 3 types of manned fighters, a tanker ship, a command and control ship, and a mother ship in the game. They are not all as unique as purists might like. This was our first game, and is more generic than TKS is. While the documentation makes references to the game universe, the actual game does not have as much of that built in. The game universe concept came along late in the development of Interceptor. If there is a favorable reception to Interceptor, however, I have a number of ideas proposed by the beta test team, Aaron, myself, and from you and the Audiogames.net forum that commented on the original announcement. If we did get enough interest, these changes, and other ideas we've had would lead to a more interesting game. Already, with the work we did on TKS, I could see a possible use of tactical map mode with an Interceptor Redux. I'm excited about it. I replayed the game for the first time in a month or so (most of my attention has been focused on getting TKS bugs worked out) and failed to get past level 7:( So it is a challenge even for someone who has a good idea of the mechanics of the game. If there is more curiosity, I can lecture at even greater length at a future time:) Take care, Jeremy --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] TKS release and Interceptor
Hi Jeremy. I can't really make a complete judgement about the game without having played it, so I'll wait and see, lack of variety in enemies is slightly my concern, but again whether all the other factors you need to judge make this less of a problem I don't know and I won't know until I've bought the game.
